Re: Framing for critique

I don't know what you are doing with that 'blue thing' you have going on there, however. Perhaps to hang in a nursery maybe. I don't know whether I'm missing something but I thought the blue frame was an excellent choice for the picture and the usage. Why would it suit a nursery? I'd have thought p...

Mirrored glass

I've to fit a sheet of mirrored glass into an existing frame. The size is roughly 700 x 500mm. The existing frame is quite heavy for me to handle, so I'm hoping that 3mm thickness will be sufficient rather than 4mm due to the weight, but I thought I'd better ask. It's for a domestic setting.

Their headline should more accurately be "Remove watermarks from other people's images for free"....

Re: Energy companies

There was an article on one of the online news sites the other day about a new proposal to capture wave energy, which apparently had been given the go-ahead. But wave energy has been talked about for decades and none of the proposals ever seem to lead to a revolution in energy production.

Re: Online Framing Tutorials

I once watched some of Rinaldin's videos on Youtube. He does 12 videos about conservation framing but it's so long ago that I can't remember if they all show best practice or not. I wish he wouldn't sometimes swizzle the frame round on a hard surface without picking it up to turn it. https://www.you...

Re: Have a website and need an online shop

@SteveG - the link you've posted isn't the Ecwid ecommerce site. See the post I made giving the correct link, the second one down, after the original post.

Re: Have a website and need an online shop

@StevenG, I'm not sure which web site you're referring to, or why, when you said you'd avoid it like the plague. I'd agree as far as the link in the first post is concerned, but the correct web site - ecwid.com - is genuine and quite a well-known ecommerce site which has been around for a long time....

Re: Have a website and need an online shop

^ I don't think the above link is correct because it takes you to a website called ecwids.co.uk (ecwids with an 's'). And then when you go to the Pricing page and click 'more', it takes you to a different site altogether about a referral program called ambassador. I think the ecommerce site Ecwid is...

Re: What do you listen to when working?

Why can't it be like in America where you can dial into a huge selection of intelligent rock music stations? Check out the aforementioned accuradio.com, where there are 67 channels in the Rock section alone. And then there are the other sections for Adult Rock, Alternative Rock, Alternative Rock Cl...

Re: What do you listen to when working?

I often listen to accuradio.com which is a free internet station. It claims to have 1400 channels. You can select any genre and within each genre, there are typically dozens of options. Or you can select a decade, and again there are typically dozens of options within the decade. And it's all free, ...

Re: Energy companies

I've been with Octopus for a couple of years, with domestics dual fuel monthly readings. I don't have or want smart meters. So that's about 50 unlucky spins with zero winnings. I still play it of course, has anybody ever won? Otherwise no complaints so far with this energy company. Yes, I won the o...

Energy companies

Following on from my comment on the "7000th Member" thread about how off-topic chat kept a different forum alive and vigorously kicking, I thought I'd give it a go to start a thread in "After Hours". So this is about energy companies, and domestic rather than business. I changed ...

Re: The Forum’s 7000th member

I'm the opposite, Justintime - I really dislike the Facebook format and I really like the format of forums - it's easy to follow a particular topic where replies are all grouped together and it's easy to use the search tool. I don't see the attraction of the Facebook format at all! Thankfully it's n...

Re: The Forum’s 7000th member

I used to belong to another forum, which was very similar to this one in many ways. Like this one, it had been running for about 20 years and the members were a mix of experts, learners, aspirers and lurkers. It was also like this forum in that the members were sensible, articulate and gave (mostly!...

Vintage postcard

I’ve been asked about framing a vintage (sepia) postcard, with a double aperture mount so that the reverse of the postcard can be scanned/printed and framed with the front. Has anyone any thoughts on how to scan/print the reverse of the card to appear aged, so that it doesn’t look out of place with ...

Spraymounted drawing

A job in hand is a drawing, on paper which had been fixed to a backing paper using spraymount. Fortunately I've been able to separate the drawing from the backing paper, but it's left the reverse of the drawing slightly tacky, albeit not tacky enough to stick to any other surface. Is the residual ad...

Re: Relief map

If you use a mount, it will have to be set behind glass - is this what the customer is expecting? I did one a while ago for a customer who didn’t want glass, and wanted the map to be in a standard frame with the relief standing proud of the frame. To get rid of the hole and avoid the need for a moun...
