Re: Freelance Framing

Hi Mog, Thats a fantastic idea, I think you should soon be extreemly busy. E-mail me your details with hourly rates etc. I'm not far from Edinburgh but have really busy periods, but not busy enough or (earning enough) to employ someone even part-time. Contract work for most small framers would be id...

Re: Deposits!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for replying, as always, so quickly. I think I will have to give this one a little more thought. If I do start asking for a deposit I think Jim's polite way of asking is the way I would go. It it clear, to the point and very polite. It also gives the customer a choice. It is re...

Deposits!!!!!!

Can I ask a question? Does anyone out there with an established framing business ever take a deposit when a customer leaves something to be framed. This months cash flow has been particularly bad (lots of work, framing like mad but people have been very slow over the last two months in picking work ...

Re: touching up of natural wood mitres ?

Hi Bagpuss,

I use this method to fill even a hairline gap in bare wood frames. Sounds like you have already fixed the frame so make sure you mix the saw dust with lots of pva glue as the mixture dries darker than ash if too much sawdust used, and could end up looking worse than before.

Re: Floating a large canvas

Emeraldart,

That really is a beautiful job. Bet the customer was thrilled. I have been following this threat with great interest as am also in process of framing 3 large canvases. Do you mind me asking what moulding you used for the frame?

Hi Robo,

Can you tell me how your outer frame / slip over frame stays attached (besides excellent mitering that is!).

Re: Re-inforced Glass

Hi all, Thought I would fill you in on this glass situation..... Finally got it sorted. The etching would and could not be removed. My supplies supplier finally put their hands up and admitted that they had supplied the wrong glass. They had supplied it for external use and not picture framing. The ...

Re: A very Small Shop.....

Thank you all for your wonderful and very helpful comments. I do agree with keeping a very clean and smart premises, I hate to see dirty shelves and dust in any shop. I do think that for the moment converting the garage is the best option for me just now. A shop of any description will increase my i...

Re: framing football shirt with long arms

I also used the hanger system from Lion to frame a long sleved top. Lots of frills and creases to cater for. It would have looked terrible flattened and with this system I think I only used about 20 tags. I also used lion extra deep rebate bare wood with matching slip and stained both the colour I w...

I have worked from home for some years and now converting the garage into a shop (we are just off the high street with planning permission). Maybe in 5 years I'll move to the high stre...

Re-inforced Glass

I have just received an order I placed with one of my suppliers for re-inforced glass. I had pre-cut the frame and slip so that it could be cut to exact size. It measures 145cm x 34cm. The needlework that is to go in the frame is all ready to go but heres the problem....... The glass manufacturer ha...
