Re: Mountboard - Individual sheets

You're right you can't really. But I'm thinking when times are normal again you can collect if close enough.

Or I've bought single sheets from another local framer before now when I've needed something quick?

I don't see the problem here, apart from the tape being the wrong colour? Is this what they call the bodge-hog method, will have to read up on this....

Thank you Mark :D

Really pleased to think I've inspired you to make hand finished strut backs, that's very cool 8)

Look forward to seeing the finished results.

Re: What's wrong with flexible tabs?

Hi Rainbow, Yes, I was referring to the FATG standards of not using flexible points in conservation level framing. But I have nothing against bendy points and do use them at times. One time is when the rebate is too shallow and the back-board is flush with no room for any points. In this situation, ...

Re: Art glass film coating damage?

Cleaning my coated filters for camera lenses is a nightmare at times and coated picture frame glass is no exception. I stopped stocking full sheets of coated glass in the end and got Wessex to cut it for me to size. The trick is to handle it as little as possible :head: I would definitely try a diff...

Re: Art glass film coating damage?

You may have damaged the coating but I would say most likely not :D What did you use to clean the glass? I would try again with a soft micro fibre cloth and some good glass cleaner that you would use for spectacles or camera lenses. I use Opti-Bright from Wessex. I know the sort of marks you mean, g...

Re: Just dropping by to say hello...

Thanks for the welcome back folks :D I'll contribute when I can but I am a bit rusty (also found a few rust spots on my Torso when I uncovered it recently but nothing a bit of vigorous rubbing won't sort out  ) and most of my framing now will be off white mounts and simple oak or walnut frame...

Just dropping by to say hello...

I hope all you lovely framers are well and happy :D Long time no see! I know it has been a difficult 2020 but we are heading towards better times and I'm off to get my first jab next week :sweating: 2020 has been a year of photography for me and no framing! I've been selling my work as prints but no...

Re: White mount boards

Last year I had a problem with Arqadia Solidcore conservation board. It is a solid board using the same material throughout i.e. face, backing and core all being the same, and the batch I received had a slightly different colour face paper to that of the backing when they should be exactly the same....

Re: Tape to use?

Here are my thoughts about tapes and their uses. There are two parts to tape; the substrate (the tape itself) and the adhesive. Tape can be made from wood pulp, cotton rag, linen and Japenese papers such as mulberry tissue. Wood pulp contains lignin which will degrade over time and as it does it pro...

Re: Subframe fixing methods

I must go to the same school as Justintime  Here are some photos of the Wessex subframe in use (PW219) the frame is about 90x110cm I just cut and join as any other moulding... plenty of glue and V nails. The pre cut groove in the subframe allows for easy attachment to your frame with screws. Th...

Re: Morso fence question

When your left fence is set correctly to give x4 snug corners, then it may not be dead flush with the right fence. When you make you final cut i.e. in the last notch, make sure you pull both sides of the moulding flush up against both fences. For wide mouldings you may not be able to pull the mouldi...

Re: Self adhesive boards for mounting photos

Yes, I still think in inches but measure everything in metric  Basically, we’re talking an A4 size photo here so no problem using sticky board with a hand brayer roller. But also the methods shown in the videos will be good too including paper hinges. It also depends on whether you are using a...
