Re: (Mitred) Joints!
I also wondered if the rabbits have developed tougher skins since HS2 got the go ahead through their beloved Downs..... it seems somewhat too strong at 11:1

Good point re. damp shed. One loose link and pop, there's that crack.

(Mitred) Joints!
Can anyone advise? At the end of the day, well, 20 years of days, is the mitred spline as strong as the traditional cross-keyed sliding dovetail joint? I read the previous thread on the Forum with great interest. I have frames made by two leading framers (Martin Turner and Giaccherini). The frames h...

Re: Canvas slips and backing boards.
Must say, that link from Richard to the American demonstrating his method is superb. Such a pity that the big UK university art schools didn't offer a module on framing. At the least it would have helped artists to appreciate the intricacies of the framer's craft.

Robo, it is presented impeccably. I wonder how you would frame a 30 million pound Giaccometti.

Here's another amazing example, the sheer intricacy.

Re: Canvas slips and backing boards.
Having written that, it has blown (plasters' expression, Robo ) a little in one area, but hopefully the area is slightly behind where the painting will be.

Re: Canvas slips and backing boards.
My main concern as I only have one piece of jute (hope that is the right term for it), and I'm located the other side of the Styx, is/was whether to stick it down, and with what...... In the absence of any recommendations I bit the proverbial bullet and went for a weak rsg solution (9:1) in the hope...

Canvas slips and backing boards.
Do any of the generous members have any wise words on the subject, caveats, anything?
Much appreciated,
Ben

Re: Bole - gold combo
You mentioned using pale blue bole. I add it to the Paynes Grey bole from Robersons and it gives a slightly deeper tone which looks good under worn burnishes. But I still like the dusty colour simply left under matt slips. The deep red bole colours can look a bit aggressive under worn gold. Whatever...

Re: Hardwood mouldings
Thanks Prospero.
Found this sweet bit of cherry at Simonart, which I want to stack up next to a decent sized cushion which I will white gild over black. Love cherry, so a hundred foot of a good profile would be delicious.

Re: Hardwood mouldings
Great advice, thanks. Sam at Rose & Hollis seemed very helpful when I called earlier. Though sadly the profile I wanted for that job wasn't to be had from them.

Hardwood mouldings
Who has the best range for hardwood? (Cheery cherry mostly)
Apologies, if it has already been discussed.

Re: Rebates
Like fitting a V8 engine in a mini metro. Thanks for the cautionary reminders re. engineering, Robo. Not sure which looks worse, a frame hovering off the wall, hanging on the stretcher like an ill-fitting hat, or some unsightly bulge on a skinny profile ;-) Unfortunately time is of the essence as I ...

Thanks, Geospectrum. No luck with them. When I was in London last I went to Simonart... The nice lady shrugged knowingly when I moaned about them not having anything.

Re: Stretching a canvas
If it was oil on canvas a little gentle misting with water makes the canvas more supple. But heaven knows what new fangled chemistry is at work with what you have to deal with.
