Re: hardware for plastic frames

I use a screw designed for chipboard/supawood/MGF. It has a wider thread than self-tappers and tends to bite better and not strip as easily if overtightened. And as Ormond says, use a size determinrd by the depth of the profile.

Hi Deep
the writing was initially on paper and then made a normal photocopy thereof except on transparency instead of paper ( we did use a laser copier )

Re: HELP AND IDEAS PLEASE

I haven't read the whole thread properly but I once did some gold and platinum discs for a musician and the script details were burnt onto acetate ( black obviously ) and this was then placed over a metallic paper making it look as thought it was printed on the paper (this was put into a window/ ape...

Re: cross stitch mischief ....

I insist on some form of mount - with slip or spacer or double etc - I just tell the customer I refuse to do a cross-stitch without a mount - not quite sure why there has to be so much space between the frame and the fabric that one sees down the sides ???????

inner peace

Subject: Inner Peace I am passing this on to you because it definitely worked for me today, and we all could probably use more calm in our lives. Some doctor on television this morning said that the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started. So I looked around my house ...

Re: Tuition

I would try someone in Somerset West or Cape Town so you're not too close to home. A local framer may not want competition. I have a number of clients from Hermanus - yes! they drive the 100 km to get here - so don't bug them :D :D :D - as for local competition - just make sure that you become bett...

Re: Tuition

Hi Roelof - damn right, not any books to serve much purpose in our shops. I think your best bet would be to scour the web for books or ask the fundi's on this forum where to look. You would learn the basics on that expensive course ( which I never did anyway ) but no where near enough to gain real e...

Re: Frame finishing - white

I hand finish the length needed before cutting the frame ( not mad about overlapping paint at the mitre joint) I use a good PVA applied with dense sponge working fairly quickly but as evenly as possible. If necessary apply second or third or fourth coat depending on the whiteness needed. When dry I ...

Re: Framers Eye

I use a substantial amount of synthetic moulding some up to 15 cm in width and which can also bow on a frame 2.5 metres long. Whenever I get to a hardware shop or supermarket, I collect the hard plastic packing tape (looks like woven fibres) that is used around big cardboard boxes. I brace the synth...

Re: What do you do with your Morso wood shavings

My machine is against a wall - I used about 100cm length of PVC gutter - splayed on one side with a flat piece of wood wider than the gutter and crimped on the other end with cable ties - this rests just under the trays on the machine - waste flows down into box on side of machine

I don't like to think there are rules in any creative process - photography, framing, painting whatever !!!!!!
My only rule as such is to do the best job possible so that the gut says " damn! that looks good "

Re: Using an Airbrush to Stain / Paint bare wood frames

Airbrushing can be a beast - some compressors pulse so when I bought a long time ago I opted for one that uses a diaphragm. It also needs a moisture trap to overcome spitting condensation. My airbrush is an Aiwatta which allows for selective pressure as well as amount of fluid through the nozzle. If...

About 20 km from town center John - drove in by car but the bus and train services were so upgraded for the event that I suppose a 2 km dive to the station would have sufficed as well. i also wanted Uruguay thrashed but they were totally engulfed by orange fans at all the gathering areas, fan zones,...
