Re: Skull and crossbones frame moulding

Centrado have taken over Flagship Framing so it might be worth giving them a call.

Re: CMC cut mounts - is this acceptable?

If the boss doesn't know that they've been sent out like that, you'd be doing him/her a favour by telling them. Other work might be going out like that and if nobody says anything, the boss will lose customers without knowing why. It doesn't have to be confrontational. Just tell the boss you're disa...

Re: CMC cut mounts - is this acceptable?

Can you even be sure that they've been done on a CMC and not manually? Although even manually, that level of incompetence on every cut is quite a feat!

Re: CMC cut mounts - is this acceptable?

You're right, they are totally unacceptable. It's not only the over-cuts and the raggedy corners, but on some of the images, you can see a clear line running down the centre of the bevel - that definitely shouldn't be there. And on the top image, the right hand one looks as if the facing paper is sl...

I've had good responses from advertising in a local parish magazine. Might be worth looking into if you have one.

Re: Wiping dust from photographs

I do not think there is any water in canned air. Just propellent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_duster That article says that there IS liquid in the can: When using canned air, it is recommended to not hold the can upside down, as this can result in spraying liquid on to the surface. The grenade...

Re: Wiping dust from photographs

I will get an air can and try a microfibre cloth and give it one last go. If that is still not satisfactory, then I will ask what resolution she wants. I think she is angling for a discount, but I am not sure if I want to do that. I would rather refund....I think. But I don't want to come across as...

Re: Wiping dust from photographs

Because they've been so rude, I would agree with vintage frames - give them their new photos back and cut your losses. I wouldn’t be surprised if they ask for the original photos back as well, but they are only entitled to have the status quo restored, not to have two sets of photos for the price of...

Re: “I’ll keep that… it come in handy!”

I view it as a blessing rather than an affliction :D I've often had cause to be thankful that I've kept something from years ago, sometimes even decades ago. As long as you've got the space to store it in an organised way and can easily retrieve it when you want it, it seems very sensible to me. You...

Re: When a customer disappears...?

I used to take a deposit, but because I couldn't take Visa (no signal in the building), I only asked for not much more than a token amount. Then I stopped taking a deposit from repeat customers, and I think the fact that they could see that I trusted them helped to cement the relationship. Then I s...

OK I'll see you and raise you :D This is a "Standard Ready Reckoner". So if somebody wanted to buy 3 pictures at 7 pence 3 farthings each, the Ready Reckoner will tell you instantly that the charge is 1s 11d and a farthing. It will also helpfully tell you how to work out the weight of hay,...

Re: Mount border width cutting calculation.

One little thing, I have been measuring to the back of the bevel on the underside. Justin and Rainbow, do you mean you measure to the front of the bevel or am I reading that wrong? I think you're asking "do you measure to the edge of the facing paper, before the bevel starts, or do you include...

Re: Mount border width cutting calculation.

I place a moulding chevron on the mount chevron and ask customers to decide visually how wide they want the mount to be. Once they've decided on the visual width they want, I measure from under the rebate to the bevelled edge of the mount. In practice very few customers would be able to tell the dif...

Re: Mount border width cutting calculation.

See attached drawing as an example (not to scale). The visible art is 800 x 500. The visible mount is 50 all round. Another 3mm of mount fits under the rebate. So the overall size to cut both the mount and the glass is 906 x 606. You may know this already but the glass/mount/undermount "sandwic...

Re: Artwork stuck down with double-sided tape. How to approach when re-framing?

If you do decide to add another mount, a black core option would probably be best so that it blends in with the existing mount.

Re: Artwork stuck down with double-sided tape. How to approach when re-framing?

They are looking at chunky dark frames (LJ Urbane 432436000), which they love in itself but does not really go with the colour board it is on (sort of a browny-grey). If they love the profile but not the colour, I'd probably be offering them the same profile but in black (or black with a silver or ...
