Re: 5 levels of framing question

To return to the original thread regarding photographs and unbuffered mountboard for a moment. As we are aware Cotton Museum Board is made from 100% cotton fibre and the unbuffered board is especially made for mounting certain types of photographs. It would appear that these photographs are particul...

Re: Framing, and support for cross stitch needlework

The first method I always consider when supporting cross stitch is to lace, as already mentioned it is very easy and once you becoming accustomed to lacing it is quick. However, pins and foamboard is just as good and in some cases can be just as quick as lacing. Which ever method one uses it is easy...

Re: condensation

A couple of weeks ago a lady, for whom I had framed a item of crewel work in a firescreen, phoned in a panic saying that she had cleaned out the fire, re-laid it, replaced the firescreen then gone to do some gardening. Problem was that she had left a couple of embers in the fire which had relit and ...

Re: Constant problems with self adhesive backing tape....

I tend only to use gummed tape for the reasons given earlier. However, I wet the tape using a paint brush that I also use when applying PVA for mitre joints etc consequently there is always a small amount of PVA diluted in the water. Helps the tape adhere to the moulding and backboard.

Re: Framing Seminar Videos?

After giving seminars either at Lion events or the Spring Fair I always load the power point slide shows on my web-site under articles. If you don't have power-point then you will have to download a power point player. Web-site www.harlequin-frames.co.uk The Spring Fair seminars have normally been a...

Re: making a proffesional job with staples...

Could you not cut a mount to cover the staples?

As Prospero mentions you could have supported the fabric by using stretcher bars or alternatively laced the item onto the board. There are many ways of supporting fabrics without resorting to staples.

Re: Which are the best AR & AR+UV glass types?

Hi John I also picked up the booklet written by John Palmer form the Wessex stand - it is excellent. I was particularly impressed by the framed pictures on their stand and particularly that showing the ArtGlassARUV and speaking with John he highly recommended this glass. One might say that he would ...

Re: Under Mounts

I understand that the green ECO board was made from the waste board remaining after Conservation by Design had made their conservation/museum quality boxes. The reason it was coloured green was to distinguish it from other boards, I agree with the comments made that it was a superb board.

Re: Under Mounts

I use Arqadia's range of conservation backing boards. Just recently I had a request to cut two pieces of 2.2mm backing board stick them together to form a 4.4mm deep bevelled mount. Tried it but what a fad then decided to stick them together first and cut the both in one go, once I had made minor ad...

I have an old ex-RAF Ops room 10 draw plan chest that I managed to find before leaving the Service and combine this with Arqadia's Visifiles of varying sizes.

Re: Medal framing research...any recommendations?!

A reference book I keep close to hand is the "Medal Yearbook" which gives an explanation and description of each medal awarded to UK Forces. It is split into decorations ie. VC; campaign medals i.e.1914-15 Star etc; long and meritorious medals i.e. Indian Army Meritorious Service Medal 184...

From my perspective the GCF Qualification has been instrumental in establishing a successful framing business and perhaps...

Valiani Cuts 3.5mm Mountboard

At the Spring Fair there was some questions regarding the cutting of Arqadia's thick board. Recently I have been cutting 3.5mm Arqadia board with ease. I have attached an example cut showing the Valiani name in Italian colours, my machine is a Supreme but the Mat Pro will produce just as good result...

I went to a local insurance broker and expalied what I required and got insurance for around £300 and this covers my requirements. The insurance is through AVIVA and the brok...
