Re: Watching TV.
Mark - if you don't have a telly, what do you point the furniture at? I like european version of Wallander too. Tried Branagh version but not for me. Poliopete - my wife like all the blood and gore type films which i don't enjoy. I think having had 16 operations in last 13 years, i get enough at hom...

Hi Paul,
I use this

Once applied, can use top coat as normal. I use their shellac based primer and external primer.

Re: Watching TV.
The Virginian and Bonanza are great programs, as is the high chaparral. I also love Columbo which is on 5 usa most weekends. I record them and watch when i can. Will binge watch war of worlds. I will record series rather than have to wait a week for the next episode. My wife and i enjoy the bbc4 pro...

Re: Another frame
Seeing other frames does inspire me to keep trying new finishes. This one is for a pencil sketch. Simple black frame, with silver liner. It was actually a wessex obeche frame cut through my table saw to work as a liner. Instead of a double mount, went with matching slip. Again using a silver gilt cr...

Looks fantastic. Can only assume customer is colour blind if they want green.

Re: Another frame
I love that Alan, yes OTT, and it will require something specific to suit it, but a cracking finish.
Thanks for sharing.

Yes, that rusty look would have worked a treat.

Another frame
I thought i would post another one. I am always keen to advocate hand finished frames, but realised i rarely posted any of my finished work. I always worried (previously with certain members) that members would criticise my work. BTW, i would always welcome advice and what i could have done better/d...

Re: Hand Framed oil on canvas
Thanks for comments. Yes A168 is always handy to have in stock. Rose and Hollis have another similar wide moulding PP 301 which is a decent one to have handy. I may have gone with a liner prospero (if i had not used it all up previously) but i thought it may overcomplicate. I could have machined som...

Re: newbie advise needed - canvas framing
I am framing an England Rugby shirt this week with the players cap. The customer wants the cap padded out so i am having to do a very deep frame. Will take some photos as WIP.

Hand Framed oil on canvas
As there has been a few people posting and asking about hand finished frames recently, i thought i would show my latest frame. I had 3 days to turn this around and it was for someone on the top board of McDonald's (hoping payment is free burgers for life!). It is Rose and Hollis A168, no stacking et...

Re: newbie advise needed - canvas framing
I use offsets, but i also tend to join a Rose and hollis fillet to box out the moulding so it sits better against the wall (if the customer is happy to pay the extra). The F10 or F9 ones are the ones i use. I glue and clamp (or pocket screw if front moulding allows and then a bit of sanding and fill...

Re: Looking for advice on "Buyers Protecion"
I have bought all my framing equipment from here. Always been happy. I collected bigger items and checked them, but always had good quality. I am also on another forum for woodworking, and have bought big priced items and again been pleased. To be honest, i would trust guys on forums over ebay and g...

Re: Another 2 hand finished frames with photos of various stages.
I use southern yellow pine a fair bit for joinery. It is far denser than standard pines and spruces (similar to western red cedar) and machines well. It is not particularly knotty in my experience, but i have not seen it advertised as used for pre made mouldings, so this is more relevant to "vi...

Looks fantastic.
Also interested to know what gesso you used. I use liquitex, and the reason i ask is after 6 coats, i would have hidden the grain on the moulding.
Btw, i really like the frame with the grain, but interested to know.
Cheers

Re: Am I a bit unusual having a band saw in my workshop?
Also, i do have a spindle moulder so if anyone gets stuck trying to match a moulding, i may be able to run off some if needed. I know trying to get small amounts done is hard.

Re: Am I a bit unusual having a band saw in my workshop?
I have a bandsaw. I use it for framing, but probably use my tablesaw and planer thicknesser more to be fair. I have a full joinery workshop, so my table saw is a great big cast iron panel saw, so has very accurate fence etc. I guess. I tend to use my bandsaw for ripping timber so keep a 1 inch blade...
