Widening a rebate - best method?
I need to widen the rebate on a moulding by 4mm on a large frame. I'm not sure which is the best method to use to avoid damage to the outer faces. 1. Table saw, multiple passes with front face of moulding facing upwards. 2. Table saw with 2 cuts - 1 pass as 1 above & one pass in line with inner ...

Re: Does A Mitre Saw Laser Help?
Pointless as they can't be relied upon and are just another thing to have to keep in alignment (as well as the mitre & compound angles). I have one on mine & just switched it off as I check the blade alignment against my pencil lines rather than the laser.

Re: Any tips for cutting Rose and Holls A219 obeche on a Morso
I've recently had issues cutting oak - the blades were pushing the moulding slightly forwards hard up against the fence causing it to twist & cutting at a slight angle as a result. I was convinced the blades were fine having compared sharpness with a couple of newly ground sets. The only way I c...

Re: Print 150cm x 100cm - Best approach ?
Apologies, I didn't explain myself very well, I meant foamboard (not backing board). Yes, the Image will be floating / hedgehog mounted then glued to undermount. My concern is that at this size whether the undermount should be fixed to foamboard or similar else I'm worried it may sag forwards as it ...

Re: Print 150cm x 100cm - Best approach ?
Sorry, a couple more questions.
What's the best method to attach the undermount to backing board or are there pre-coloured foamboards available (I couldn't find any) ?
Similarly what's the best method of attaching the hedgehog mounting to the undermount ?
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks Justin, I really appreciate the advice. What's your view on the glazing as I have steered the customer towards acrylic glazing on this (probably 4mm) ?

Re: Print 150cm x 100cm - Best approach ?
Thanks Mark for feedback re hedgehog. Would straightforward V hinges top, middle & bottom or passthrough S hinges be better ? Still not sure how I can allow for the potential expansion though ?!

Print 150cm x 100cm - Best approach ?
Hi all, I have a print in for framing which is 100cm wide by 150cm tall, value circa £500. Customer wants it float mounted in shallow box frame. Given it's size what is best approach to mounting this and what backing materials will be strong enough to support & keep it straight ? It's also on me...

Re: I had two delivery visits from Tuffnell today, very strange!
Hi Mark, At least they all turned up. They've always operated like this. I bought the kids a trampoline for Christmas a couple of years ago. It was delivered by Tuffnels. Correction, half of it (parcel 2 of 2) was delivered by Tuffnels - the other half (parcel 1 of 2) never turned up ! Does seem ine...

Re: Photo mounted on warped board
Thanks all for the input. Jo very succinctly described the thoughts & preferred approach that I had in my head (but was unable to convey). The old board does have some flex and isn't turning into Weetabix just yet so I think the sink mount is a good solution. I wasn't aware the there was a risk ...

Photo mounted on warped board
Hi all, I have a couple of 1930's wedding photos in the shop this week which have been permanently mounted to fairly stiff card backing boards, both of which have warped. I don't really want to mount the board to another board especially as there is an old photographers brand stamp on the rear. What...

Re: Equipment for new business start ups and possibly limited budgets.
I for one would have found this extremely useful. It has been a bit of a minefield trying to pull together the right equipment, find out how to use it & work out if what you've bought is up to the job or a load of crap. All the necessary info is contained within these walls but it takes time to ...
