Re: Framing Seminars at the Framers Forum Live! You Choose!
1 definitely, and either 2 or 4 would be good for me, although I'd be happy to see any of the others.

Re: What would you go for!!!!!
Hi Steph, I have an older Alpha 4 underpinner, which is great, but the newer versions have added bits that would make life with a lot of frames easier, such as remembering the settings for different mouldings. Mine was second hand, and came originally from D&J Simons - I've been told by the prev...

Re: Every now and then ....
I was at the World Superbike championship race at Brands Hatch ten or eleven years ago, and there was a display by a harrier before the race. The harrier hovered over the start/finish straight and dipped it's nose as only it could. It had been raining for a few hours, but the track under the harrier...

Re: Chardwood M3 Underpinner
Thanks for the web site compliment :D The home visit method works very well - I find that people are happy not having to lug an unframed picture or other object around to the local high street, possibly in the rain, taking up time they can better use elsewhere. I have a wallpaper pasting table, whic...

Re: Chardwood M3 Underpinner
Hi Geo, I started off with an M3, and it was good at what it did - easy to set up, easy to set the distance of the underpins, accurate inserting them, easy to use. The drawback that I had is that it would have great difficulty with hard mouldings, and I had one customer who loved an oak moulding. I ...

Re: Where to get materials
Hi Duncan, welcome to the forum - always good to see suppliers on here as well, it means that some questions can be answered directly. Glad the new premises are working well, I enjoyed the opening party.

Re: freezing feet
I put carpet on the concrete floor of my workshop which helps a little, and I wear a double layer of socks in my steel toed shoes - it stops the shoes rubbing and keeps my feet warm! Until I got a decent saw I used to use a nice electric fire, but too much dust for that now  Otherwise plenty of...

Aluminium frame and poster
I've been asked to quote for an aluminium frame about 25mm wide for a poster, to be done without a mount. Not having used aluminium before I am intending to quote on a Nielson frame, but how would you distance the poster from the glass with one of these frames, as they appear to have all sorts of co...

Re: Pain in the wrist!
Hi Tim, I'm not a sufferer like you, but I know others who do suffer in a similar form, although they are not framers and some of them are suffering from repetitive strain injury. I would suggest getting your wrist checked by a doctor as you may be suffering the early signs of RSI, or you may have a...

Keencut Ultimat Gold
Having at last been pursuaded to retire my old Logan Framers Edge (which did very well) I have to admit that the Keencut is the doggy's doodads. Simple to set up, simple to adjust, how have I managed without it for so long!

Re: Customer Access
I started that way, and I'm still working on a collect and deliver basis - the majority of my customers like the idea of not having to find a parking space and lug a large artwork around, but have their friendly local framer come and collect it and bring it back framed. You do need to work out the c...

Re: Number of frames per week?
It does depend on whether you are doing any fancy stuff on the mounts or frames and what type of machinery you are using, and if the frames are the same. Assuming a single mount, single frame and different sizes I would reckon I could get 15 frames a day for three days, leaving a day for collecting ...

Re: Setting-up
I've been on several of the DIY Framing courses and although they are not cheap I found them to be very useful - they don't assume knowledge, but if you have knowledge they won't keep you hanging on. As a newcomer to framing I did the two basic courses, framing and mounts, and started running a busi...

I also go long on the right - after I was taught I couldn't remember what I had been told was the standard, so I set my own.

Re: Moving about!
I appreciate that the question is not necessarily logical, but it is one form of research. I have looked at the framers in the various locations that we are considering, most of which are well away from the coast and popular tourist destinations - we are trying to get away from crowds :) We have jus...

Re: Moving about!
Does the lack of response show that everyone is content to have another framer move into their area? I must say that the idea of others starting up around me at the moment doesn't concern me too much, but then at present I'm working in a fairly densely populated area, and there are plenty of custome...

Re: O.M.G. where to start!!
Hi Steve, I think you maybe taking on more than you realise! I am a relatively new framer, working from home, and I already have plenty of work and I wouldn't like to have to do it as only an add-on to anything else. I think if you want to become proficient at the framing business you need training,...
