I've been a few times - you won't regret it. Get booked in for as many training sessions as you can.

Enjoy!

Re: Do you photograph your finished frames? If so, do you publish them?

I only work with a small number of customers these days, but I have always been rubbish at remembering names and faces, but I can remember everything I frame. So, I photograph every job when it is finished, then text the customer to say it is done, whilst I have their number in my iPhone, I save the...

Re: Keencut Ultimat Futura Advice

Well I have just checked my Futura, and I agree, the squaring arm scale is out by approx 1mm over 900mm compared to a steel rule. I am surprised at this discrepancy on an expensive and well-made tool. But not concerned in the slightest, because I have not experienced any problems whatsoever related ...

Re: Keencut Ultimat Futura Advice

Hi Zac Not sure if I am misunderstanding the issue here, but the Futura has the facility to calibrate all of the various stops, so that it can be set up perfectly. I think you are saying that if you read off the measurement from the scale it is out by 1 mm. In which case, just calibrate the stop, an...

If the workbench approach doesn't work, you could try something like this

Re: Frame identification

D&J Simons used to do that profile in those colours it was 9000/0032 from memory, but I think it was discontinued more than 10 years ago. Your example looks better quality - has it got closed corners? That would tell you if it is hand finished or not. If you are going to hand finish it, I think ...

Re: Wiping dust from photographs

First of all, don’t worry about your reputation! This customer is being unreasonable AND rude. Don’t apologise to them again, call them out for being rude (even if you had done something terrible to their valuable artwork there would still be no excuse for rudeness) give them their money back, and r...

Re: Float frame moulding UK

Hi Robert, and welcome There are so many mouldings out there that I generally avoid even offering to match completely. If you do find the exact one from another supplier you will end up paying delivery charges which can cut your profits. You mentioned making moulding from scratch - I do often copy o...

Re: fixing mirror in frame

Depends rather on what sort of size you are talking about, and what sort of frame.

On something heavy, with enough space in the rebate, I'd use a sub-frame, and screw that in.

Otherwise if it's small/stable enough, put a board behind it and then use framers points.

Re: Waxing Bare wood frames

Hi Rob I would recommend Liberon Black Bison wax - for oak I would use 'clear' or 'neutral' if you don't want to darken the wood. I apply the first coat with 0000 Liberon steel wool, leave for 20 minutes and then polish off with cotton rag. After a few hours, or overnight I then apply a second coat ...

Re: 2nd hand Excalibur/Fletcher etc advice

I would say that for a small bespoke framer a wall mounted material cutter will give you a huge production boost, and will pay for itself many times over. Like anything - I would go for the newest/best you can afford. The basic difference between the Keencut and the Fletcher is that the Keencut has ...

this customer is however not happy with the price increase I find that there is often some price unhappiness on oversize items. Particularly when the item is rolled up when they bring it in! Re: Large vintage posters - help please

I get queasy when the customer wants me to do something that has too many compromises. I'm uncomfortable with trying out new techniques on Customer's artwork. I've been watching this thread to see if there was a gap in my knowledge, and there really was a good way of achieving all of this Customer's...

Re: Best glue

I use Titebond 1 (Original) most of the time, because it dries faster, and is clearer when dried. I make up a lot of flat oak frames, and get a 'perfect' joint at the front by smearing a tiny bit of glue in the join and then sanding. This gives an almost 'closed frame' effect because the sawdust adh...

Tite bond for me too, I have 1and 3. On that subject my life was transformed a couple of years ago when I discovered the GluBot to dispense it from.
