Re: Backing Board

We used to see this all the time, sometimes damage was done, others not, surprisingly.
Getting less common now though.

And I rarely see the semi-opaque coating, patiently and methodically attaching itself to glass, that the smokers played at.
Yuck.

Yep that's a shocker.
I suppose you can only notify the original supplier, say your moving, but express disappointment....is it just the strutbacks?

Re: Pro Turner underpinner question

I still have a Pro Turner underpinner, orange/red colour. Never had anything else for 25 years !! Ditto! :D Bought mine from Simons, in '93. okay 24 years. It's joined so many frames i have lost count, and still copes with oak and ash, although sometimes it struggles. I'm not a heavy user anymore, ...

Re: Flecks in Mount Board

I first started using ' Artcare' (Nielsen) in '94 and found the boards really good. Even so, very very occasionally we would find "bits", one I picked at subsequently bled!! :D That mount went awol. But having bought many many hundreds of their product, I would say try it - Rose & Holl...

"I'm a picture framer"........."Oh"

When I was young and lovely (one can dream, and I'm fast approaching the age when I don't care either way) I fell in love with Alison, a doey eyed, black bob gal at college. She alas didn't reciprocate but we were chums - her being very pretty turned many heads. We met at a party a few years later a...

Washline mounts

Off to see a new client tomorrow, who is one of the "old guard" - collected paintings for 50 years, and would like me to reproduce a frame he's had done by someone else (now retired), as a wedding present. I know that some of his watercolours are washline mounted, IF it's one of these he w...

Not much agreed....Rick Stein and his weekends were good :)
Sheerluck Homes was a disappointment. Less cerebral, more oh I dunno, 'The Professionals'. :Slap:

Mind, the P would have been alright..much like Arfur D.

Re: Pictures in York Art Gallery

Maybe they have a conservator/restorer that likes to make sure s/he'll have something to do in years to come. I approached (gently) a Charity Trust that looks after a country house, when the previous day or two on a visit, I saw watercolours in window recesses, lovingly tickled by sunshine and almo...

Re: Starting up...

Regarding your location, I would recommend Wessex Pictures, they have a large trade counter in Leatherhead.
Glass, board & mouldings delivered twice a week.

D & J Simons, based in Hackney are also worth looking at.

Good Luck!

Re: Commercial Picture Framing Orders

I used to get largish orders now and again when we were in London, but as a small shop, whilst at first glance it's exciting (fairly - when your a young'un :) ) it stretched my staff, and then we had to wait for 60 days to be paid. Compared to what some can do on here, it would have been small beer ...

Re: Using self-adhesive board with marker-pen pictures

Personally, I wouldn't stick them down at all.
They are what they are, poor quality paper, to keep the tourist prices as cheap as possible - unless packaged for years properly, wavy is quite a good result1
Mount them and explain that sticking down is non-reversible, thus very risky.

Should the question arise, do you supply other framers and what is the price per sq ft?

Re: Wanted: Ultimat Gold & wall-mounted glass cutter

Hi Smithy,

I bought a large mountcutter "Ultimat Gold" a few weeks ago for around £330 - as a painter I thought it would be useful, however I probably would sell if I can get close to what I paid.

Re: PCI compliance

I have an izettle terminal (there is another thread detailing my reasons for getting this one). I don't have to be PCI compliant as I am not taking or storing any details. They enter their card into the reader, and enter pin and all information is sent to izettle using their PCI compliant encryptio...
