Re: Blasted blue specks

I use allot of the Arcadia Glacier board which has a slightly textured finish so when we have to do a bit of scalpel digging it hides it better. I would use it more often but the smaller board size is too small for our larger panoramic prints, hence our sticking with colourmount which at least is no...

Re: Blasted blue specks

I have been picking out the smaller pieces with a scale point, and then going over with a rubber which smooths of the rough edges and usually leaves you looking to find where you have been working, but occasionally is goes horribly wrong! I had been working up to a similar post to see if I have been...

How best to clean rollers

I knew that the cold mounting would have its niggles and the first is particles on the rollers. 2016-02-14 17.01.17.jpg These are largely particles from having to cut the Baryta paper to size with a scalpel so must make more of an effort to clean the edges. That said I can see that I will probably n...

Re: Use of acrylic

I would use glass and ship with a specialist courier like Fragalistics? :? As there a are number of them they charge full price for the first but something like £10 for the second, and might do a deal for a number to the same location. For me I would use acrylic if specified but not as a compromise ...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Thanks for the helpful suggestions for resolving this problem problem. I think that our wobbles are probably caused by a combination of factors so have decided to adopt the belt and braces solution, a cold mounting machine arrives on Friday! If that does not fix things I think I shall walk across th...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Our workshop is in a cellar. I have a decent dehumidifier and a radiator on 24/7 to try and give some sort of continuity but it is not perfect. I have a feeling that "upgrading" to the thicker Baryta paper has not helped, more paper more movement possibly? Certainly it has not been as stab...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Thanks IFGL, I had not thought of that! I am using the generic manufactures profile. I bought the Spyder print setup last year but have not had a chance to play with it so will have a go and see if it makes a difference.

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

I that your'e point Jamesnkr, but, especially as a number of the photos hang in holiday houses by the sea which can get damp and musty over the winter, I am generally worried about the cockling. Having largely learnt my framing skills (if that is what they are!) formerly by the school of Youtube and...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Ahh... I now have wobbles in the platform mounts :head: :head: My conclusion is that the paper is causing the problem, I left a print for a while on the bench and you could see it starting to wobble on its own accord. It is a heavyweight Baryta paper made by Canson (and expensive) so I am now trying...

Re: Bottom weighted mounts...

They are square images...would that make any difference? I almost always do not bottom weight square images. Strangely on landscapes not bottom weighting them does always seem to leave them looking top heavy but this does not seem to happen with the squares. I had thought about putting an extra 1 o...

Over a certain monthly amount banking cash costs me money, have never checked if this is more or less than it costs with card payments as I like to let the customer use their preferred payment method.

Re: Move off the highstreet??

Friends opened a natural stone flooring company in an converted barn in a busy petrol station on the busy A road between Daventry and Banbury in the middle of a village called Byfield. They were there for 3 years, advertising every month to generate business. They then moved 100 yards to a shop, by ...

Prospero Frames like that make me glad that I am a photographer - stunning! That said, Nagg2000, brilliant job for a beginner! :D 35 years ago I worked at in a Gallery in Tunbridge Wells with a framing workshop at the back. They used to hand cut the 45% bevels in the mounts, even did a clove...

Re: Tray Frames Supplier

rsf32, I think most moulding suppliers offer tray frames, either finished or plain wood. I have bought from Arqadia, Ashworth and Thompson, Lion and DJ Simons. I assume you mean this sort of thing?

Arqadia call this style a canvas box rather than a tray frame.

Re: What to look for in a printer

Charles, I used to order all of my prints from Photobox and never had a problem with quality, and on the 2 occasions I had customer complaints they sent no quibble replacements. I eventually bought an HP Z3200 24" printer as it has a gloss enhancer that stops whites looking dull when printing p...

Re: Cutting glass on the Keencut 5000

Jamesnkr, we had our 5000 from new Nov 2014, I would guess we cut an average of 3 frames a day through the year and I had to replace the wheel after 10 months. Before replacing the cut looked just the same as always but there was more resistance to the push to snap it and (we only use AR glass) it w...

Re: Card reader & App payment system

Izettle is a little cheaper than Paypal, not you cannot take payments without the cardholder being present which is a bit of a pain. We have iZettle in our smaller Gallery and a rental terminal in the main location as we do take payments over the phone.
