Re: Framing a 'lop sided' block canvas

Of course there is the option of making a lop-sided frame. I frame for an artist who used to make her own stretchers (using the standard profile lengths) often each pair could be out by 5-10mm. :Slap: These we framed in a tray frame so we made lopsided frames to match the canvas! Being large ...

Re: New Frame

Probably not my taste, might look better with the artwork in it, but it looks like it is really good quality - so in my book that knocks my taste for six and we have to give it a

Re: Keencut Futura vs Fletcher 2200

Interested to know why you're struggling with multi-app mounts on the Futura, not had any problems thus far... Don't panic, I cut multi-apps without a problem now- I upgraded to a Gunnar a year ago :P I think I had problems adapting to using a different technique to that I used in the Logan (I thin...

Re: Keencut Futura vs Fletcher 2200

I have no experience with the Futura but the Futura is an excellent machine, the fine tuning to eliminate under/overcuts is great. I had the 48" machine and it always bugged me that the design of the machine means that you have to cut 10/15mm off a 1200mm colourmount board (less than 48") ...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Thanks for the hint, it could help to explain why we have had more problems since we stopped hinging with adhesive tape.

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Yep I see these platform mounts as the way forward, the extra time spent cutting the photo paper to size is outweighed by the lack of fiddling around to position. Thanks for the tip for the hinging tape, as a matter of interest do you glue or tape the platform mounts together, and would you use the ...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Canson rate the OBA content of this paper as very low, so hopefully this is OK.

Platform mount about to go in the frame, will try this in the future and see how it copes in our beachside location! 8)

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Sounds encouraging! One last question (I hope!) Is there a 'best practice' design for the platform mount? As I produce the print myself I can make the boarder to suit so 1cm difference between the mount and the dropout mount on the back? Oh another question already! I have a little brass name plate ...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Unfortunately we have customers who arrive with the car packed and ready for the journey home and then decide to buy something, if we are lucky they come in on the afternoon before they leave. Although this is a small print it will have been printed alongside others on either a 24", 36" or...

Re: How do I cure my wobbles?

Thanks for the quick responses guys! Your hinges are all wrong - too close together and too far in from the sides, plus too wide really. Initially reading this I was confused - but do you mean the hinge tape is too wide? I did not put this one together, I usually aim to have greater distance between...

How do I cure my wobbles?

We have problems with about 20% of my framed photos getting the wobbles! I use a 310gsm Baryta paper hoping that a heavy paper would stop this but it has not really made a difference. 2015-11-20-11.41.56.jpg 2015-11-20-11.39.jpg This photo only measures 290 x 180mm. Are we doing something wrong or i...

Re: Joining a narrow profile

Brad wire, mitre vice, band clamps - are you trying to make a proper framer of me! The solution I am going to opt for is not to offer this moulding in future! Must have been lucky with the way the grain flowed on previous lengths as have not had this problem that often, I have even had 2 corners go ...

Joining a narrow profile

I think it is just the pins following the grain but 2015-11-10-14.51.28.jpg The moulding base is 9mm wide and it is 39mm high. 15mm wedges 2 in front, one in the back. First corner fine, second corner the front stacked wedge is through the side. OK, change to 12mm wedges, the result is above, front ...

Re: Vertical CMC?

I reinforced the top of my plan chest and my F1 Hybrid sits happily on top of it. The computer on the left works fine for me, the real fiddle is I have to photograph the pressure gauge on the side to check the level after I adjust it, which fortunately is not often. 20150222_162001.jpg I had been se...
