Re: Can I tell what quality mountboard has been used?
I would have thought that holding some mount chevron samples up to the mounted piece would show you what has been used, assuming that you have samples of budget, cream core and conservation levels of board. If it ain't broke and the customer is happy as it is then it's not in your remit at this poin...

Re: Sealing packages
I've used a white acid free self adhesive like Nitto tape/P70 for a few years on most work, saving the acid free gummed tape for level 1 work but recently started to use the gummed tape for everything. Masking tape is banned in my work space, I can't stand the stuff. If you've ever had to open up a ...

Rose and Hollis here too. There are various shades and patterning that turn up. It helps to ask them to check for matching and straightness when necessary, which means that they'll take more time picking it and the do their best to send you all similar looking sticks in an order. Never had an issue ...

It's fair to say that you got yourself a bargain and I hope you have many years of happiness together! As painful and frustrating as it is, for some of us problem solving issues like this is the best way to get to know tools.

Are you bottom knives flush with the deck? They're not catching on the fences are they? Looking at my Morso, that's all I can see that could be catching? If so, take them off clean them and the morso body and reseat them??

Any thoughts? Good luck?
You don't mention value. If acceptable to the customer it could be mounted to board through a large roller mounter at a signage shop (and laminated if required).

Re: Self Spacers
I can recommend the Keencut Square Edge ruler, I have one that's 120cms long, if you're doing it be hand. It has anti slip rubber bits on the underside. I glue the foamboard to mountboard with EVA and weight it until dry. Very doable on a Keencut, you just have to extend your straight blade far enou...

Re: Staining/Finishing
I use green scouring pads for rubbing back Oak, but start light and add pressure if you need to remove some sheen, otherwise you can end up with green bits in the grain and then a rub over with a cloth.

Re: Staining/Finishing
I always do a wax coat last (usually black bison neutral wax), it gives it some protection and a finished look. Depends if you've used a spirit stain or waterbased. If spirit based you could use one of the polyvine waterbased finishes after, for a dead flat matt finish or there's a more gloss one th...
