Re: What do we do with left over pieces of mountboad in unpopular colours.
I take mine to the local primary school for their arts and crafts work. Other than that it is simply paper/card. Bin it. It is recyclable and will come back to you as toilet paper or some other useful item.

Re: What is the strongest archival or conservation grade glue?
I would be happy to simply use PVA for this. If the painting is already done onto MDF depending on how thick it is it may not require a further backing board? If it is onto thinner, say 2mm mdf board I would back it onto 5 or 6mm board. The method I use I picked up on this forum. Place an even layer...

Re: Morso/Underpinner angles
In my experience this has more to do with the Morso blades set up than the underpinner. I have three sets of blades and of these I have one set that just sit perfectly on the Morso. Whenever this set is on my cuts are perfect and they join perfectly on my underpinner. I hate it when I have to send t...

Re: What stain brand is best with obeche
I recently made several frames very similar to this one for a customer. I stained it with Dark Jacobean and the finish was very good after a medium oak wax applied.

Re: bonding a canvas
I generally apply both coats to the base board the second after the first has become tacky effectively sealing the board and then carefully lay on the canvas smoothing it out as you go. Then place a second board the same size or slightly larger and put heavy weights onto this. (Originally learned th...

Re: bonding a canvas
I believe Copydex is ammonia based and a natural rubber latex which can oxidise after a while. PVA (polyvinyl acetate) does not have this problem and may be better. I have had old canvasses to frame and have successfully bonded them to a 5mm MDF base using two coats of PVA.. Allow the first coat to ...

Re: Framing a Kilt
That’s awesome. What a privilege. I’m sure others on here will have good advice for you but. They are rather heavy items and need to be folded in a certain way. I would make sure the substrate is good and strong and can support the weight and then I would treat it like any other fabric/ garment in t...

Re: Mat decoration tape
These are examples of deep bevel edges, two with coloured self adhesive tapes and one with the Royal Stewart tartan ribbon. The painting is of the Scots Dragoon Guards marching along Princes Street, Edinburgh. They all went to the same customer, the Pipe Major. 99C07A54-091A-4F79-9680-131A88579AA5.j...

Re: Mat decoration tape
I have used old maps to wrap over the deep bevel edge of foam board in a series of frames I did for an Exhibition of Scott of the Antarctic and it worked very well. I have also used ribbons of tartan etc to fold over the bevel edge sticking it down with finger lift tape very successfully. You can us...

Cling film
I’m pretty sure this has been raised previously but I couldn’t find anything recent. When I’ve completed a job I will wrap the finished frames in mini wrap cling film. This allows the customer to see the finished product. I have had a few customers raising concerns about the use of plastic and sugge...

Re: Cutting Cori cor on a mountcutter
Thank you. I’ve been cutting the backing boards on the mountcutter for a while and have noticed some slight damage to the base but maybe the blade has been set too deep. I just wondered if this was common practice but thanks for responding.

Cutting Cori cor on a mountcutter
Hi. I have a Keencut Ultimat Futura mountcutter which is a great piece of kit. I have been cutting my backing boards on this for some time (cori cor) but I read somewhere recently that this was not a good idea and detrimental to the cutter? Any comments/advice appreciated.

Re: Not that many driftwood mouldings are all that special, does anyone know any good ones?
Cheers Mark..it is expensive but my customers seem happy to pay the ever increasing prices for this and similar mouldings. I don’t have the experience or machinery to split such mouldings but I can see the potential especially with the really wide range.

I find customers really like the driftwood range from Lion. L2186. It’s very popular and cuts very well imo.
