Re: Framing a mount less poster
To come from another point of view...get the customer to sign a formal looking thing to say that you've explained all the risks of framing it the way they want it done and you don't accept any responsibility for future damage or loss of value. At worst you're back is covered, at best the customer re...

Re: have no idea what this is , may be off a keencut
Wouldn't have any use for the plunger bits but multi-angle mounts are always good to keep people busy when work is quiet!
I'll send you a pm.

Re: Smoothing edges of glass
I haven't got the latest study guide that has just been released, but in the one I have it isn't mentioned in the 5 levels of framing and I've had a quick double check through various other parts of the study guide and I cannot see it mentioned anywhere else either. We do hone the edges at times - ...

Re: Smoothing edges of glass
Mixed reviews then! I don't know if I've ever cut myself on glass - definitely more likely to be a paper cut for me. One person in particular though has managed to cut his fingers every shift for the past month or so. Once fairly badly. Retraining hasn't really helped so I'm hoping this will. As a m...

Re: Smoothing edges of glass
The only reason I'm curious is that a few of the guys we support seem to have taken to nicking their fingers on glass at least once a shift (not bad going for a 2.5 hour shift!) So I'm thinking, gloves on to cut glass then smooth down the edges with gloves on - then once the gloves are off the glass...

Smoothing edges of glass
Does anyone do it?
Pretty sure it's in the GCF guidelines...not something I've ever done though!

Re: Diffused glass
From before I started here, we've always used plain glass and diffused NR glass. Used to get a lot of customers asking for it but recently not so much.
I hate the stuff. Hoping to phase it out and replace it with a better option (or options).

Never mind the cracking...someone's spilled paint all over it!
Re: HF newb
Thanks for all the advice.
I've also realised that the paint I had lying around was of the cheap and nasty variety. Hoping better paint will help too.
Ordered some shellac too, so I'll give that a go.
Enjoying this far too much!

Re: HF newb
Looking for some tips with this one again... The way that gets closest to what I'm trying to emulate is exactly what GeoSpectrum suggested: black acrylic painted on then wiped off and waxed (black buffalo wax). The ones I've done have a fairly flat matte finished whereas the one I'm trying to copy i...

Mount terminology
Hi! I'm trying to make sure all the (non-framer) staff here are using the same language when we take in orders. Looking to see if everyone uses the same terminology (more or less). [*] A mount which overlaps the edges of the picture I'd call a window mount [*] If I use a hedgehog mount to mount a pi...

Re: frametek econospace
Thank you very much for those replies, I'm glad I asked this question on here as have just watched the youtube video regarding sticking mountboard to foamboard and this is ideal. My question being a newbie is where to get the best foam board and mountboard. Is the standard to use 3mm foam board? I'...

Re: what would you do?
I did something similar a while back. Held it in place with a few staples through the fabric at the back which were hidden by a mount. Customer hadn't paid huge amounts for it and wasn't planning on taking it out the frame - I'm not fussed about making it reversible if the customer isn't. Didn't lay...

Re: Rough edges on mountboard bevels
Rough edges is usually a sign that the slip mat needs replaced. I never go over the same bit twice as even just the second cut in the same place leaves me with ragged edges. I always tell people to do this when I'm training them. Largely because I know they won't do it every time - but at least the...

Re: FREE moulding
If we were closer I'd happily take it off your hands. We do a lot of training, so any moulding is good moulding for people to practice and learn with. I know ianb@frameofmind does a similar thing to us so might be in the same situation with free moulding. Not sure how much closer they are though, ev...

Re: HF newb
Not quite what I was going for but about as close as I think I'll manage.
Tempted to look in to doing more HF stuff next year. I think most of the guys here would manage simpler finishes like this. Charging more and paying less seems a good mix to me!
