Re: Securing D links on floating frames

If it's just a canvas without glass there won't be much weight so even small screws should be fine. If you want to screw through into the canvas as well just get longer screws. How have you been fixing the canvas into the frame if you haven't been using longer screws? You can also use double d-rings...

It's hard to tell if your pricing is wrong when you haven't disclosed your price.

Re: AI/ChatGpt

Here are some specific things that a picture framer should watch out for in terms of AI taking over: The use of AI-powered tools: AI-powered tools are becoming increasingly common in the picture framing industry. These tools can be used to automate tasks such as measuring, cutting, and mounting artw...

Re: AI/ChatGpt

I would say that there is a real danger in the advancement of AI, but it is not as simple as saying that AI is going to destroy the world. There are a number of potential dangers, but they can be mitigated if we are careful. Some of the potential dangers of AI include: Job displacement: AI is alread...

It sounds as though it is a modern canvas, so should stretch fine.

It really doesn't bother me, certainly not enough to create a post about it.

Re: Is the customer always right?

I don't think I've ever had anything that bad but I often get pixelated photos so I normally have a conversation about print quality and where the original photo came from etc. Once armed with the information if they still want to go ahead and get it framed I will oblige, although often I'm asked to...

Re: Wedges not being driven in flush with back of frame surface

Are the wedges definitely the correct type for polycore and are they in the correct way?
If the pressure is up that high and still not firing in fully something else is wrong.
Have you tried with some wood just to check?
I don't use plastic moulding so not sure what is different.

Re: Extra large painting to frame

Is it a painting on canvas? If so you can just make the frame and not have a mount or glazing. If it's actually paper at that size I would be offering a wide wooden slip that gives the impression of a mount, rather than an actual mount as it is too big for my machines also and I've struggled before ...

Re: Poor cuts

Is it possible there was a bit of wood shaving stuck behind the blades, or the bolts misaligned?

I've done that before and when I took them off and cleaned everything properly and refitted the blades everything was well again.

Re: Police Memorabilia Frame

No, I don't mind critique.
When everything was straight it looked very clinical, so the customer agreed with a slight angle on some pieces.
The frame is around 40cm deep but I'm not a fan of sinking larger objects as I feel it just means people peer around the back to see what's happening.

Police Memorabilia Frame

This was for a retiring sergeant. One of his colleagues brought all the items and asked me to work out the best layout and style.

They were very happy with the result.

Re: 2x Canvasses

I assume your photos are the wrong way round. I agree with prospero, the one where you're showing the corner has already been stretched and will be easy to stretch again. Occasionally I get a customer who is keen on a mount or double mount with a canvas, but I still stretch it and just use foamboard...

I'd still refuse to do it if you brought it to me and asked me to do it that way.
I'd try and talk you into putting a frame around it, but if that was a definite no-no, I would insist on plastic glass.

Re: Framing tools - great other uses

This is great Nick. I think it definitely has a place in the forum.

I used my morso to cut architrave moulding for around a door, but quickly realised that the angles were nowhere near 45 degrees, so I had to keep shaving bits off until I got close.
