Re: 2x Canvasses
I assume your photos are the wrong way round. I agree with prospero, the one where you're showing the corner has already been stretched and will be easy to stretch again. Occasionally I get a customer who is keen on a mount or double mount with a canvas, but I still stretch it and just use foamboard...

Re: Floating Glass Picture
I'd still refuse to do it if you brought it to me and asked me to do it that way.
I'd try and talk you into putting a frame around it, but if that was a definite no-no, I would insist on plastic glass.

Re: Framing tools - great other uses
This is great Nick. I think it definitely has a place in the forum.
I used my morso to cut architrave moulding for around a door, but quickly realised that the angles were nowhere near 45 degrees, so I had to keep shaving bits off until I got close.

Re: Floating Glass Picture
A few things that stick out for me. Is the glass just normal float glass? If so the front 3mm glass would be at risk of cracking. It would normally be in a frame so would be protected but you are pressing against it at 4 points. Your edges and corners will be particularly dangerous, even lethal. I w...

Re: Looking for a deep rebate red frame
What are you framing? Could you just use a smaller one and use canvas offsets to hold in the back?
I had to do a green deep moulding recently so I just got an unfinished one and painted it with green gloss.

Centrado took over CRL so they're your best bet.

Hiscox for me too.
The main issue for me was finding someone who would cover goods in trust, so other people's belongings while I had them in to be framed.

Re: Mountboard Companies
I had this issue with previous manufacturers' boards but for the last few years I've been using Munken for my main white boards so it's been much better. It is double sided so one side is off-white and one side is cream so I show these to customers first and if neither are suitable I move on to Cent...

Re: Mounting CDs
For records I use car body trim clips so I imagine CDs would be a similar sized hole.
The clips are plastic and you push through the outer ring and then screw in the middle bit to tighten, you can then cut off any bits that are sticking too far out the back.

Re: Stupid question alert - double rebate frames
This was a question I asked when I first started framing but never got an answer that made sense.
You always need something to hold the glass in so you will either need to use points which might be seen and might break the glass, or cut a separate spacer from wood or mountboard.

You could try Caledonia Fine Arts in Lesmahagow, maybe a slightly easier run that into Glasgow.

Re: Query about mountcutter
Thanks, you're right it would be beneficial to have the extra capacity, for the odd occasion when such stuff comes in. I'm working with the 40" just now and it has got limitations. Does anyone have the 1200 (48") size? It seems as though a full mountboard (1200mm) will fit on the base lon...

I have made my own system using a pricing system that was made in excel and posted on here a few years ago.
Now I have it in Google Sheets so although it is just me it could be accessed and edited by others in real time.

Re: Advice Appreicated
Thanks Mark, Based on how this thread has gone I think I'd like to source someone local to me. I've been given the name of one in central Glasgow, so 20 miles or so, ideally I'd like to find one closer so nipping in would be easier. Where are you in Scotland? How sure are you of the 50 per week? If...

I don't use chop service but I agree that the price displayed should be the price paid.
I would be annoyed if I saw a price of £7.77 + vat for chop and got charged £9.31 + vat.

Re: back edge shredding
As others have said this can just be an issue with the type of moulding, or even just certain parts of the moulding. Are you sure blades are sharp? If mine are and I'm still getting this issue I put a strip of backing board at the back and then cut to the 2nd last cut of the morso which cuts through...

Re: Engraver-cutters
I often order engraved plaques for football tops, war medals etc. so it could be used for that. I also occasionally get the mount engraved directly so that's a possibility. I don't imagine it would be cost effective for me to get one for the amount of times I would use it, but if you have easy acces...
