I've just received some moulding stock from one of the usual suppliers. The timber is dry & brittle & any attempt to chop results in corners crumbling away. Is this something we are expected to just accept or do others send it back and/or request refund.
Cheers,
Neil

Re: Rebate not deep enough
Thanks all for the replies. Think I'll need to use all of those strategies given the framing requirements are each quite different (but all use a narrow rebate0. Lesson learned - chuck out the corresponding chevrons and/or be careful what I offer fillets on in future !

Neil

Rebate not deep enough
Today's challenge is I have 2 framed items which once fillet, glass & triple mount are stacked there is insufficient depth to get a backboard in. Do I cut backboard wide & attach direct to back of frame or add a strip of wood to rear of frame to increase the depth of rebate ? In either case ...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
To answer my own question it looks like I have an early model Excalibur, so glasscutter body appears correct (as the more recent body wouldn't fit). I've tried the new helpcentre on Keencut website but no info there. Please can anyone advise how I contact Oliver at Keencut (who's been mentioned on s...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
Frustratingly the very next piece of glass I cut broke as per all the previous problem pieces. I've spent the whole day trying to sort the problem. Final job was to clean up the cutting wheel and in placing it back into the turret I noticed that it slides all the way into the turret & doesn't au...

Re: Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
Thanks Mark, I've had another go at it this morning & may have solved it. I think the steel edge that sits behind the glass was fractionally distorted, perhaps from glass being previously clamped down against a shard. Now scoring properly but new problem is the bottom edge of the glass is gettin...

Keencut Excalibur 5000 - Glass Cutting Conundrum
Hi, I'm experiencing an issue with my Excalibur 5000. When I cut glass it scores a perfect line until about 6 inches from the bottom then the score becomes quite faint. This almost always results in a perfect break down to the problem area and then a jagged break either to the left or to the right. ...

Re: Wanted - 21" old style standard lion stretcher bars
I think the challenge with making your own on a table saw, even with a jig, would be the faff of setting up the saw so it cut extremely accurately ensuring a perfect fit & good alignment all round. Then multiple passes of the saw blade would be needed to create the mitre plus you'd need to ensur...

Re: Help please - cutting multi aperture double mount
Thanks both. I also read that you can cut the bottom mat first on top of the top mat which leaves markings in place on the top mat to help map out the top mount. THis is the technique I went with and am please with final result. The frustration I'm having with the Keencut is aligning the blade with ...

Help please - cutting multi aperture double mount
Help please. I'm cutting a multi (4) aperture double mount and am really struggling to get good alignment between top & bottom mounts. I cut my top mount then overlayed it on bottom mount & marked out the apertures on bottom mount. I then reduced apertures on bottom mount by 4mm all round &a...

Re: First Canvas Stretching job - guidance please
Many thanks everyone. I'm waiting for the painting to come in. Owner says she's asked artist to leave plenty of canvas around perimeter to allow for stretching, whether this means the picture is square or not remains to be seen. I suspect that it's unstretched to make easier for artist to post their...

Re: First Canvas Stretching job - guidance please
Many thanks, really appreciate the advice. Do I need to ensure that the entire painted surface is on the front or is it acceptabe if some of the painted surface wraps around ? If some painted surface wraps around is there a way to neaten the edges as this will be unframed or is it just accepted that...
