Re: Pricing on mounts etc

I wouldn’t get involved. You’ll always find someone doing this kind of work cheaper and you’ll be forever chasing the lowest price to keep the business. The key is that the businesses who do this kind of thing can negotiate large discounts from their suppliers and work on a high volume, low margin b...

Re: Morso blade retaining bolt size.

Geoff, as a non-engineer I don’t know, but Mark Thornton at Underpinner Spares probably would. The other person to try is Neil Stout at www.framingengineer.com who is an expert on all things Morso. I wonder whether the comment about the quality of the steel involved on Mark’s advert is an issue, and...

Hi Geoff - I’m sure these can be made but they’re not that expensive to buy.

Re: New to framing

Marcel Welcome to the forum. If you’re looking for a trainer in your area, you could look at the Fine Art Trade Guild website at www.fine art.co.uk where you will find a number of framers in the Netherlands and Germany. In particular, I’d suggest Stephen Finney, who is an accredited trainer and exam...

Re: Glass vs Perspex - How big is too big for glass

You'll find that opinions will vary, but I tend to follow the advice given by my suppliers, Wessex Pictures, who suggest that once you go over a square metre, you should consider using 3mm glass. Having said that, there are plenty of experienced framers comfortable with going over that. A good quali...

Re: Cutting problems

I’ve found that sticking a short length of removable yellow Frog tape to the back edge of mouldings frequently protects delicate finishes - comes off easily without marking the moulding.

Re: minimise moulding wastage with morso cutter

If you want to support the moulding as you feed from the left, a roller stand works well. Been using it for years and it's a cheap and effective solution.
Lion do one, as do most other suppliers

Re: Chipped rose golf moulding to fill

This is just the sort of moulding I would always order on chop. This type of finish plus the profile makes this a complete lottery on a Morso.

Re: WALL MOUNT CUTTER SERVICE PERSON WANTED!

Kim -

Try TGS Repairs, run by Mark and Jamie Griffiths, based in Essex. Contact numbers are 07859 818233 (Mark) or 07817 848324 (Jamie). They service Keencut and Valiani cutters. Jamie does my servicing and I would be happy to recommend him.

Good luck

Re: Large frame glazing

This whole thread makes me feel really nervous. There’s a popular misconception that acrylic is going to be light, but if you look into it, a square metre of 3mm glass and a square metre of 6mm acrylic are going to be of a similar weight. There are companies who would take this on, but I certainly w...

I use Wessex. Annual charge of about £35.00 and then £2.50 per collected box. They supply the boxes.

Re: Van livery/signage

Richard - not a problem and no offence taken. I thought I’d put it on as an example of what could be done on a modest budget to help the OP come to a decision about what he wanted to do. I originally got a quote for a full wrap which was great but which financially made my eyes water. I decided it w...

Had my van redone a while back and followed the advice of the graphics company and went for a brightly coloured bonnet wrap. Definitely gets me noticed and I’ve had a number of good jobs as a result.

Re: V Nail Cartridge Issue

I used to have the same machine and this is a common issue. It drove me mad until someone told me the answer. If you take a spare plastic 'pusher' from inside a used cartridge and push it into a half finished cartridge so that you then have two pushers inside, you'll find that it increases the press...
