Re: Old newbie but its not too sore

Oh well, we have to put petrol in our Ferraris somehow, I guess  (I must stop "laughing" at my own unfunny comments.)

Tape....

Hi All, What does everyone use to seal up the back of the frame? Is self-adhesive a complete no-no? I've used Tessa tape in the past, and liked it. But I want to do things the right way, and as 'conservation' as I reasonably can. So do you use gummed, self-adhesive....if so, what brands do you prefe...

Re: Hello, another newbie here, looking for advice!

Hi Fran, Well done for registering, and a huge welcome to you. :handshake: As you know by now, this place is a wonderful source of learning and fantastic support group. Following on from Mark’s great contribution, I also have Nobex saw. I was knocked out at how good the cuts are with a new blade. An...

Re: Jigsaw

Spray Mount is made to be re-positionable, so I'd be concerned about it all moving.

3M also do something called Photo Mount, which is more beefy, but you don't really get a 2nd chance with it.

GL with it.

Re: Art Deco picture

Don't let it stress you, Rainbow. Have a few educated stabs at it - which 'll be fun and interesting. But you're a picture framer, not a social historian. Perhaps the customer could print off some things they've seen / are looking for? Maybe watch a few episodes of Poirot this weekend!! Good luck - ...

Petrol (lighter fluid) is a great de-gunger. Just soak kitchen towel in it and wipe off the crud.

You'll get there with it, Mark.

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to re-learn stuff we all take for granted.

Everyone on here is rooting for you....and admires you for your guts and stoicism.

Keep at it, fella - but please take it steady and listen to your body.

Re: Massive Mouldings

Great tip on the saw, Mark.

I got a sliding mitre saw very cheap recently - for building, really. But I might look into the 36 tpi as an option if I ever need to cut any big mouldings.

Hope the shop re-opening went well, mate....and that it didn't take too much out of you.

Re: Decent, cheap masking tape...

Cheers all.

Got some 'Eurocel**' from Toolstation. Seems fine....al I wanted was something that would actually peel from the roll without disintegrating (not much to ask you'd think!).

Anyway, this stuff seems the ticket, and reviews very well.

** on offer at £2.88 for 50 metres of 2 inch.

Re: Decent, cheap masking tape...

That's a coincidence; I've been swearing at this cheap stuff....every time it splits when I try to peel some off

Thanks, Steve. It's six quid a roll, but I think I'm going to have to stop being such a skinflint!

Decent, cheap masking tape...

.... I know those words don't often go together! But can anyone recommend decent, cheap masking tape please (preferably Screwfix or the like, not some 'min order £100' place)? Currently have a roll of Toolstation's cheapest stuff, and it is useless - only had it a month or so, and it shards off in 6...

Thanks for sharing that insight - very interesting.
