Re: Float mounting in deep shadow box.
Well I completed the frame and the customer (an artist) was delighted. In the excitement I forgot to photograph it, but I'll get the chance again because it will be hanging in the Usher Gallery in Lincoln for the next three months. The final frame was 860 x 760 x 10cm deep box frame. I made up my ow...

Re: Hand finishing
A basic question. Does one hand finish the moulding or the finished frame?

Re: Reverse Bevel stop
Thanks for the responses. I think I'll use the method described by CanvasChris. I should have thought of that one earlier. Thanks.

Re: knots
For sealing the ends I use one of those lighters with the long extension used for starting barbecues, I don't fancy having naked flames in the workshop.

Reverse Bevel stop
I have the reverse bevel stop for my Keecut Ultimat Gold. I need to cut a mount with 55mm borders and use fillets but the scale which came with the stop only goes down to 75mm. Am I missing something?
Thanks
Thanks

CMC Swan design
Hi, I need a swan design cutting on a CMC for some school portrait framing. The final design will be a double mount with the under mount showing through the swan cut out as well as forming the border to the aperture. Full spec to follow, but the swan would need to be quite small, so just a swan shap...

Village Hall stall
I live and run my workshop in a small village and have been asked by the parish council if I want to have a stall in an upcoming village Christmas Fair. I have only just got started and am keen to attract business however I’m not sure if the is the right event for me as I’m pretty sure no one at the...

To soon?
I have only just set up in the last 4 months, working from my garage/workshop. Things are slow but picking up. A shop unit has come up and is available at a decent rate in the local town and I am tempted as there are no other framers in town. However, a shop was not part of the plan for another 12 m...

Own framebox profile made to spec.
Does anyone know where to get wood milled (CMC'd?) to my own spec? It needs to be a bit like Framebox (from Wessex and others) but with diffrent profile. I am making large and deep box frames and need a paticular profile to make the box part. I can't find a moulding with deep enough rebate (upto 100...
Re: Insurance
NFU were great and have a policy which covers exactly what you are looking for. I have just taken a policy out and it covers my home and contents, the home based business, all stock, customers art, machinery etc etc. Very happy with NFU who called in in person to talk through the options. They have ...

Re: Charnwood M3 Foot Operated Underpinner - Opinions Please
I have an M3 and so far I have been happy with it. It does what it says on the tin as they say and was probably worth the £450 I paid for it. I think it is fine for smaller frames upto about 4-500mm and low production volumes. I have read that hard woods are a problem although I have not had the nee...

Re: Float mounting in deep shadow box.
Thanks Robo I will have the art work on Sunday (artist making final choice) but I have the dimensions and an example of paper (exact paper size and weight, uneven finish etc) while I apply some thought to the project. The main problem is that the paper is in effect a sculpture. If you lay the paper ...

Float mounting in deep shadow box.
Hi All, I’ve been asked to build a large and deep (600x800x6) shadow box and float mount a work on paper inside so the paper appears to float in mid air. The effect really needs to have the paper about 2-3 cm away from the backing and about the same from the glass. I'm considering making a number of...

In order to build up a collection of examples of my framing I am photographing most jobs for possible inclusion on the website. Someone pointed out that I probably should seek permission from the customer before I publish the photo to the gallery. Its does at least seem polite to do so, does anyone ...
