Checking suppliers stock on line

I already know that Arqadia provide the facility to place orders and check stock on line. Are there any other suppliers who also do this? In future, I am interested in checking the availabilty of materials while the customer is still in the shop and giving a guaranteed collection date and if possibl...

Re: Using spacer for v-grooves in different mount thicknesse

I guess you are going to be photographing the mounts to put in your adverts. Hi Jonny, Yes that's true, but there's a lot to do before getting the CMC, which I will order sometime during the mid to late summer. In the meantime I'm completely re-arranging the whole shop and workshop, reducing my exc...

Thanks Peter,

That's absolutely brilliant. I was also considering sticking used mountcutting blades together with double sided tape, but of course the tape will fail in time.

Re: Using spacer for v-grooves in different mount thicknesse

Before I discovered otherwise, I used to set my v-grooves to half the thickness of the mountboard and for a long time I gave the matter no thought whatsoever. However, there came a time when I started looking at v-grooves more critically and I discovered that it was possible to add another 50% to th...

Re: Using spacer for v-grooves in different mount thicknesse

Gunnar Hi Stephen, I know, but I'm working to a plan with certain things I want to do before I get my own Gunnar. I'm about to embark upon an advertising campaign and at the same time, reduce the turn around period for customers work. By the time I order the Gunnar, I hope that things will be reall...

Using spacer for v-grooves in different mount thicknesses

I'm trying to come up with a foolproof and quick way of setting up for v-groove cutting with different thicknesses of mountboard and corresponding different depths and therefore widths of v-grooves. Also I am wanting to cut the maximum width of v-grooves for maximum visual impact with each thickness...

Re: A conservation question

what conditions in a sealed package in a well made frame are likely to cause such a bleed to take place? Placing a mountboard sample into a container of water for an extended period is a deliberately severe test and therefore it can be said with 100% confidence that there is no question whatsoever ...

Re: Keencut Laser blades

You really do need the Kenncut 080 blades as they are much stiffer and because modern mountboards are so dense, the stiffness is important! They stay sharp for longer too!

Re: CMC VERSUS KEENCUT GOLD

personally I'd get a CMC to allow me to take on more work and feel confident that I can turn it around without having to work unsociable hours Too right! I had a suspected T.I.A. (a small stroke) the week before last and the hospital doctor was shocked at how many hours I work in an average week. O...

Re: Purchasing my first CMC

Until now, I've not contacted businesses which are local to me, as I don't want to reduce my rates to get work and businesses are likely to want things at a competitive price, but there will be exceptions once I have the CMC. There are several local photographers, perhaps one or two wedding arranger...

Re: CMC VERSUS KEENCUT GOLD

I found Jan's recent two postings both interesting and informative. I think that the reasons and justifications for buying, or renting a CMC cannot be summed up by how many mounts you cut per month, or any other nice easy questions and answers. Each framer and each business has unique and individual...

Re: Obeche Vs Ayous

O.K., it sounds like a no brainer, but getting some samples before you commit yourself, might be a sensible thing to do. Also, you could also get a quote from Norfolk Mouldings, which might be at a much better price.

Re: Obeche Vs Ayous

I am led to understand (from what various people have told me), that Obeche and Ayous are the same type of tree, but the two different names are due to the fact that Obeche is grown in a warmer moist climate in Africa and Ayous is grown in a cooler less moist climate in South America. This results i...

Re: Budget price tapestry framing.

Apparently Neilsen Bainbridge no longer list Speedmount, so if this is correct, I am assuming that the only pre-coated dry-mountable foanboard still available would probably be "ArtCare Restore". Somehow this does not sound like a budget way of doing this. I'm starting to think about fixin...

Re: Budget price tapestry framing.

The problem is that many of these customers are regular customers who also bring in plenty of normal framing orders as well and I don't want to lose such good customers to a competitor. I do tell them why these items should be framed properly, and that I will not put my label on anything which is fr...

Budget price tapestry framing.

Generally I try to avoid doing tapestry framing using anything less than conservation standards and lacing the tapestry on to ArtCare foamboard, however a lot more customers are trying to avoid spending the extra for a proper job these days. Much to my annoyance, I have just had to stick down a tape...

So, the 300 range meets FATG conservation quality bar those colours, but those colours still have the same core and backing papers as the other colours. Nope! Colourmount's published product information clearly shows that the series 300 conservation mountboard has a core and backing which are to an...

They don't even partly fit the bill, but fail to comply with conservation framing standards on the specification of the core, the backing paper and the surface paper. End of story!

What a brilliant product. Until now, I hadn't even heard of Z-bars. How come none of the main suppliers stock them?
