One thing I found about the morso was it has to be perfectly level - mine was sat on an uneven surface, making it lean forward slightly, which resulted in it cutting at the wrong angle, giving similar gaps. Check the bed with a spirit level.

If you feel really brave you could try Ubuntu. This is a version of Linux which is getting very good. You can use an application called Wine which allows you to run most windows applications within Ubuntu. There is also Suse 10.2, which is excellent, and which is my main OS. The nice thing about li...

VAT is in effect a tax on the profit, as you can claim back the VAT paid on materials. There's a lot more to it than that, of course, as you can claim back VAT on most VATable items & services (electric, fuel, stationery etc).

For occasional use, you could get one of these which you could probably get cheap on Ebay, say £50-£60. I've used one for a couple of years and they are fine for small to medium frames and mouldings, although you will probably find it's a bit slower than your nailgun as you have to hand feed the nai...

Cheers mark, I'm trying to avoid study guides as as far as I've read you need other books to supplement them. I'm starting off a basic framing service in my shop, but I don't have a lot of spare cash to invest into it - I'm hoping that it will build up gradually, and after a couple of years of build...

Three books

A question for all the more experienced framers out there.. If you were starting out as a framing newbie which 3 books would you have wanted to read first? In other words, which would have been most helpful to you? I ask as I have a very limited budget, and would like to get my choice of books right...

As an artist, I don't find anything wrong with what this artist did. If you have a subject/style that people buy, and it can be painted and separated in this way, it makes sense to do it - it's batch production. As a framer, if you were asked to produce 6 frames, all the same style and size, would y...

I think I've found the problem - The shop is a 1700's building, and as you would expect there are no true straight edges/level surfaces anywhere. To the eye, the Morso was level, but when I put a spirit level on it it was leaning forward by quite an amount. I've shored up the floor with 1/2" pl...

I'm still having a problem on this one. Other posts on this site seem to refer to a set-up procedure which I can't find - is it on the member area, perhaps?

I could do with a complete how-to on Morso setup.

Mark, First thing I did when I bought it was to buy a new set of blades. Both blades and block were well cleaned before fitting. Like you say it may be a case of getting a feel for it, maybe building up some strength in my fingers may help :D The mountboard isn't a problem getting into the workshop,...

Something just occured to me. I wonder if it is breaking through on the penultimate cut, so that on the last cut there is a chance of one or both pieces drifting :? Just need to check the forward adjustment in that case.

I'll check it out tomorrow.

It is larger mouldings I'm having the problem with. So finger pressure might not be enough? Any suggestions for a way of clamping the mouldings without risk of damage?

Morso vertical adjustment?

Hi all, Just a little about myself first: I'm in West Wales, run a very small village Post Office/Shop, I claim to be an artist, and I'm about to launch myself into the world of framing, because as with most small shops today, you have to diversify just to stay breaking even! It's also damn handy no...
