Re: Tips on improving photo mounting technique

I make the under mount larger than the top mount dimensions - position the top mount over the photo then trim off the excess of the under mount

Re: Cutting Glass

I have used cheapos ( Diamantor single wheel ) for years and have never had a problem with them - stored in a half coke tin with wd 40 in it - I do buy 3 or 4 new cutters every couple of months but at ZAR 20 it never hurts the pocket. It is very easy to tell when to bin a cutter and I have even binn...

Not a single one yet - maybe they are all worried that I have read that thing about the size of the lower anatomy and the white-with-red-cross identifier

Vuvuzela for president

What an awesome day we have just had down here !!!!!!!!!!!! Have never ever experienced such a vibe in my life.............. and I haven't even dared venture off my property. Just standing in the back garden this afternoon and you could hear screams and shouts, vuvus, music billowing over the hills ...

Re: Folded parchment

What I did was to hinge onto a board slightly smaller than the document (there were fortunately red tramlines drawn around the script so I cut that board to line up with them) then I stuck that board onto the background colour required - spaced it about 20mm deep to accommodate the lifting edges but...

Re: Cassese Wedges Query - IDing, shelf life, sizes required

I use the Cassese Masters bulk pack in 7 and 10 . Contains 8000 wedges per box ( no cartridges - just the wedge strips), costs less and merely loads into the plastic cartridge. Lasts me about 4 to 6 weeks so shelf life is no issue ( not that it is in any case I think). I don't often buy the longer w...

Re: Folded parchment

Thanks Dermot ! I have once before queried the price of the UV acrylic from the firm where I buy Correx ( the fluted stuff I use for backing) but it was so horrific that I can't even remember what it was - I think it was more than I pay for museum glass (the stuff from Germany - can't remember it's ...

Re: Folded parchment

Thanks a mil for the replies ! The folds are not a problem - it's just that the whole sheet (about 700mm square) tends to lift up on the sides and if there was a way of reducing the lift I could have tried it but we shall do it as is me thinks.......... like the idea of cutting open the back but the...

Folded parchment

This indenture came in today for framing - Edgeware Rd London dd 1877. The parchment has been folded a long time. I intend using 4 x paper and starch hinges to hang it but does one do any thing to 'flatten' it ? - my advice to the customer was to leave as is and space it deep enough from the glass (...

Feel-good job!

A friend of mine is head of the NSRI (national sea rescue institute) at V & A Waterfront in Cape Town. Last week his mother passed away and he is under a lot of stress. This evening he phoned and asked about a frame for a photo of her which he had printed for the funeral tomorrow - or should he ...

Re: Off-gassing of photo's

I mailed the suppliers/producers of the adhesive for info today and am waiting for a response . It is water solluble when liquid but on drying it becomes a sticky layer (which is then no longer affected by water ) before I apply the print with a rubber roller. Did a test strip with the glue and put ...

Re: Off-gassing of photo's

Interesting thought John - might just try hanging one to check the result although being such a large image it might just bulge towards the glass but worth a try even it is just to check the glass - the adhesive I use is water solluble, I apply it to a board with a sponge roller and it becomes stick...

Off-gassing of photo's

Anybody out there who indulges in photography or printing who has any idea about this problem - couple of months ago I had this image printed to 100cm tall and framed it up but have twice since then had to open up the whole thing to clean the glass - it must be off-gassing of some sort because the g...

Re: Storing customers work

I would use 3mm correx with straight flutes - sure it must be available in UK - actually made for billboards and signs . That which I buy as backing material is 1.5 x 2.5 metres and would fold easily to make a folder and it is cheap
