Re: New Blades

Check that the blade is inserted properly all the way before tightening the allenscrew There is a serated adjuster which mustn't be fiddled with if not purposely adjusting for a thicker/thinner board as this affects the depth of the blade cut The rulers for setting the stops can slide fairly easily ...

Re: Rippling photo problem

...had a number of these. they are often stuck with a hard brittle glue which has failed in areas and even if you do get it off the backing the photo paper remains wobbly. I tend to take a photo of the photo, load the raw file into pshop to edit out any blemishes, adjust the colour balance to keep i...

Re: How to stretch those flimsy cloth paintings?

If the artwork was bought in Africa somewhere they are often done on cheap cotton fabric primed with fat pva and painted with enamel type oils - they also come off stretchers which are totally out of kilter - I generally clean off the dust from the back and then glue them to board and then am forced...

Re: shrink wrapping

I used to buy rolls of plastic called high quality book covering - cheap though, used for school books. When unrolled it had a folded edge and open edge - I used to slip the mounts between the layers and use a metal straight edge and soldering iron to seal off creating a completely sealed pocket for...

Re: Flapping frames

Like Robo my cassesse faces away from me on corner of large work top - work bench is 25mm lower than cassesse but I have two planks of 25mm thickness and just over metre long which I move around as support when joining frames over 1000mm per side

Re: 'Home Working' - a nagging doubt ...

16 years now in my converted garage and going strong - I suppose municipal regulations differ but the local building inspector/ town planner visited me once because of complaints but turned out it wasn't about me - just asked that my signage hanging in the tree stays as it is 300 x 100 mm board and ...

Re: Furthest you have driven

1994 Cape Town to Henties Bay , Namibia 21hrs drive - Helluva distance to go and catch fish on the coast of a desert - especially when there were so many fish that it became like work, not enjoyable angling - but the night sky while driving through desolate areas was unbelievable - no wonder prehist...

Re: Chinese torture paintings

No holes anywhere! No glue was used anywhere - both frames had the same powder in but only the one had what looked like fishmoth/ silverfish nibblings on the mount - mystery to me - anyway the old stuff is now chucked and the artworks are safely in new frames and mounts.

Chinese torture paintings

These two frames arrived today and I am keen to hear if anybody has seen something like this before. At first glance I suggested powder beetle in the wood but the further I inspected the more quizzed I became. The is absolutely no trace of wildlife in the wood of the frame. It is also a very hard wo...

I saw that story on Sky News the other day - not only socks were nicked but other clothing items as well - owner of the cat eventually hung all the stolen items out in front of her house so that the real owners could collect their stuff (some of it brand new )

Re: What type of knot

Mitreman wrote How strong are your fixings? I use mainly single and double d-rings. I generally keep a stock of about 7 types of hanging attachments - two different "swingers" like in the pic ( versatile because I sometimes bend them to fix stretchers into a frame or use them as clamps ove...

Re: What type of knot

Hi guys - the knot I use with polychord ( which is what I use mostly anyway - I normally keep about 4 grades ) is what I would tie a hook on a fishing line - loop through itself three times, pull it up tight against the hanger tag and then the excess I place under the hanger tag and then screw it ho...
