Re: Displying and presenting to sell

Here's a fun idea from one of my retail merchandising classes, that I learned from a very successful retail framer many years ago: If you want a "feature" item to sell in your front window, put a bold sign on it that says: "SOLD!.... Don't Ask" As you can imagine, interested cons...

Re: Water damage/mould on print

Here's some simple tips.... The best way to to kill mold, is to stick it in bright sunlight for a few hours... Leave it outside for some sunbaking! you will have to carefuly remove the residue, but at least you know the mold won't come back if you kill it with UV exposure... Cockled prints - humidif...

Re: cmc picture

Hi, Actually, mastering Corel Draw is really only half the battle to create these type of artwork designs.... The "other half" you have to master is also Adobe Photoshop.... I use both of these programs to create my carved mat artworks on the Gunnar CMC... Add to that some patience, time, ...

Re: designs

Hi, The first place to start is to contact your CMC/supplier manufacturer for designs/cliparts to get you up and going. I know that Gunnar, Wizard & Valiani all have library of pre-designed cliparts and mats they can supply to their CMC users, so maybe Tru Cut have something like this also? The ...

Re: Life After Death by PowerPoint

That's a classic! Very funny! I use PowerPoint quite a bit for my own classes, and thankfully - I'm not guilty of any of those bad mistakes (... well not in recent years anyways... :) ) .... having sat through many painful PowerPoint presentations myself over the years, (and some I regretably paid t...

Re: Desperately Seeking Smooth Drymount Surface

Hi, The information I provided above was only referring to using a Hot Press/drymounting ... as that was the original focus of this thread. However, if you really want to mount super-glossy photos (cibachromes, ilfochromes, fuji-flex) perfectly & professionally - you really need to use pressure ...

Re: Desperately Seeking Smooth Drymount Surface

Hi guys, Sorry, should have posted this a month ago... but only read this thread now... Be wary of permanently drymounting to acrylic ... acylic is "hygroscopic" (absorbs moisture) and thus not dimenisionally stable - much like MDF... so what may "look good" today, may become bow...

Re: Am I too expensive?

I quoted £28 each but he's decided to get them done by another framer for £18 each. What would you do? I got some ideas on this topic, that I actually discuss in detail in one of my classes... here's just a few thoughts: I would instantly flip the perception and reverse the psychology. Question: &q...

Re: How to answer an artist who wants to do her own framing?

Hmmm.... Ok, these are my thoughts - Should an artist really be framing their own artwork? NO! - an artist should not do their own framing, for the following reasons: - Does an interior decorator do their own carpentry and manufucter their own furniture? - Does an architect build their on constructi...

Here's a tip - I found that flat & square profiles of aluminium wrapped mouldings cut really well in a guillotine... upside down. Nicer "undented" corners.

Jared, do Gunnar do a box template that works in a similar fashion? Yes. Actually there are several different fold up box templates which automatically generate, just by typing in the width, length & height. Great for storage, and recycling of course. As you can imagine, conservation people lov...

Hi Guys, I know this is a "Valiani" thread, but I think recycling is cool :) and I may have some tips to help you for this... Firstly, here's a diagram of a cardboard corner, generated by a standard template in the Gunnar software – you may be able to use this a reference for your Corel Fi...

http://www.alcancompositesusa.com/prod_gatorfoam.html It's a lightweight foam centred board with a very rigid, smooth surface. I am familiar with this problem on a CS88 - easy solution.... 1. Lower your top clamp down until it is "one hand thickness" away from the top of the moulding, before pushing down on the pedal. 2. Never put a wedge location closer than 8mm from the back edge of a moulding..... never. Cheers...

Hi John, I have a few thoughts which are worth considering, and may/may not relate to your problem? Dwell time changes based on the age and tension of the diaphragm of a Hot Press and the strength of the vacuum pump. A loose, saggy diaphragm will create more volume of air to suck out than a brand ne...
