Re: Antique rifles

I wanted to hide the way the frame is fixed to the wall. Thought of z bars and mirror plates, but thought they wouldn't be as secure. (I phoned wessex for advice on how to fix it and Gary suggested screwing it directly to the wall - seemed sensible to me). Once the frame is screwed to the wall it wi...

Re: Antique rifles

Both rifles were about 10kg altogether. I reinforced the box with 4 struts at the back - 2 at the edges and 2 where the hooks screwed in, then lined it with 9mm ply, then the mount board.

Antique rifles

This was the biggest job I have had so far. The rifles have been behind his bedroom door gathering dust for ages - wife got fed up and brought them in for framing. Long and heavy, the customer wanted the frame to open so he can take the rifles out from time to time. After some very helpful comments ...

Re: securing glass

Many thanks to you for your replies. The frame is 1400 x 500mm so I would feel safer having a physical fix rather than just silicone. I will have a look for some quadrant. Also for the tip about blu tac! I don't have air tools so the headless pinner is out unfortunately. Excellent suggestions thank ...

securing glass

Just a quickie.... I have to make a frame with a front opening - like a cabinet door. How would I secure the glass (3mm float). Am using R&H sw9527 Oak moulding, not much of a rebate for a spacer. I'm thinking to drill/pin (carefully) and a bead of silicone? Only used silicone in the bathroom be...

Re: Pricing (sorry...)

Hi, Pricing is one of the major queries I had when starting - I found this link by ex forum member Jim Anderson (Gesso & Bole) extremely useful and what I based my pricing structure on. http://theframersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4455&hilit=+pricing#p40741 Also there is a host of usef...

Nascar Drivers Jacket

Hi, I would appreciate some ideas about securing a heavy jacket to backing board. I have a Nascar Drivers jacket in to frame. It is made of leather and is quite heavy and bulky. I have done a fair few football shirts using a former inserted into the shirt and then sewn through to the backing board, ...

Re: I'm leaning on the Lamp Column

I do agree with Roboframer.... there are some serious Health and Safety issues here, as well as environmental ones..... 1. The child is not being carried proerly; has no safety harness; has probably not been trained in 'working from heights'; and is likely to topple over if he/she overstretches. 2. ...

Help with this one please....

I have a customer who want some frames in Matt black with a silver/chrome edge. Flat profile, 35mm black, 10mm silver/chrome edge.. Any depth etc as I have to make box frames and need this as a face. Is there a similar profile available (I've Had a quick look at catalogues and not found anything) or...

Re: framing courses

DIY Framing do what they say on the tin. If you want to run a professional framing shop look elsewhere, DIY framing will give you a good grounding using 'hobbyist' equipment. I have been on several of their courses whilst I was still a hobby framer. The methods they use are generally sound. The equi...

Sunday afternoon project....

Well a bit longer than that as it turned out! Been meaning to get round to this for ages. Thought I would have a go at putting together a selection of hand finishes (apart from 5 which are factory finished) in a travel display case. Have to see if I get any orders from them now! :sweating: IMG_0318....

Re: Hello from Liverpool

Hi Pete,
Welcome to the Forum, your website is a good insight into your work. Very different from most framers I would think. Great that you turn the wood as well as do the framong, so you are in control of the whole process. No supplier or damage in transit problems :D

Re: Hobbyist advice

Well for someone who is just wanting to make a few frames for my photography its not gonna be cheap to start with is it?! There is always trhe 'chop' service that most suppliers offer. It would save you wasting moulding and some equipment expense, if you only wanted to make a few frames. Chop is mo...
