Morso Waste - Problem Solved.
For anyone with a Morso located tight up against a wall like me the need to move the darned thing to clear out the chipping once in while is a bit of a chore I could do without. I've solved this by using a portable workshop dust exctractor. It acts like a large vacuum cleaner, stick the hose down th...

Re: Customers who like to haggle...
I very rarley give discounts these days, ( although I was more inclined a year ago when starting up) and certanly not for a one off from a new customer. 3 or more frames I might give a little and then I tend go for a few quid off rather than a percentage.

Re: How to charge for displaying customers artwork
I belive 30-50% is the usual range to charge. I'd be tempted to offer lower rates as long as you do the framing. Don't accept badly framed works, even with a disclaimer. Plenty of people are better qualified than me on this forum so I'm sure they will offer up something.

If you cant match it see if you can find a paint (or mix one) and pain the lower mount where it will be exposed then cut as normal. Just a thought...

Re: Scoring acrylic on a CMC?
It is only 15 so prob will cut by hand. I just wondered, it seems like a natural development; perhaps a scoring tool similar to a debossing tool could do it? Got the point abount the swarf though, i'ts bad enough when cutting a load of v-grooves. Perhaps a vacuum tool is needed, or a brush head?...o...

Scoring acrylic on a CMC?
I've got a buch of small (10x8) acrylic glazed frames to make. I thought about scoring the acrylic on the CMC. Has anyone tried this? I guess there is only one way to find out...

Re: Large conservation framing job.
A wood strainer should be used to contain the acrylic. I'm not quite sure what this means, is this like a brace bar across the width? I have the table cloth in my posession now, 4ft by 4ft. Signatures include Bomber Harris, Johnny Johnson, Guy Gibson et al. It is made of linnen and has been poorly ...

Cutting Glass with Excalibur 5000 - Minor Problem
When cutting glass (normally 2mm float) on my Excalibur I occasionally get little flakes coming off the back of glass as I break it along the score. They are appear at variable intervals and small enough to hide under the rebate but I'd rather they were not there at all. Before I start making adjust...

Re: Joining wood mouldings problem
Is the gap visable along the join at the back edge of the mitre? If it is it may be that you are placing the wedges too close to the rear. Are you using the correct wedges? Hardwood vs Softwood? You also might want to make sure there is no glue residue or other debris getting under the moulding when...

Re: chop service
I tend to use chop for only the more expensive mouldings. I have an order in for one frame which will need 3.5m at £55 a meter (cost price to me). That would have meant probably holding a minimum of 2 lengths, 6m, and tying up the cash in stock. Although the per meter chop price is a good deal more ...

Hot Foil
I had some photographs in for reframing a while back tow had gold lettering applied below the aperture. It appears to have been done via hot foil process. Does anyone have any experience of this? The machines I have seen are either very large and expensive or too small for most mounts. How would one...

Re: Foamboard offcuts
Model makers? Depends on the size of the off cuts but foam core is used by model makers for buildings as well as by archtectural madel makers. Might be worth cutting some up to a consistent size and flogging it on Flea Bay to see what happens?

I was commuting daily to London from Peterborough when my Daughter was born. The hour and a half train ride was the only sleep I got somedays. We are a way off from driving lessons but Megan does seem to leave a trail of discarded technology behind her....Wii, Nintendo, Laptop, iPhone....I can feel ...

......packing out the back of deep rebate frames when chosen for something that doesn't need one.....
I normally have the opposite problem. Why pack out a deep rebate frame seems like a waste of materials?
