Original posters

Bit left field, can anyone point me in the right direction of where I can purchase original theatre or film posters. I have done a google search and various places pop up but aware one needs to be careful... It’s for me rather than a client, a bit of home work / studio example. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Stock and bits n' pieces

Thanks Justin for the clarification regarding the glue!

As you say it’s interesting to compare notes. I am obviously not a veteran but certainly have learnt from experience and my own mistakes.

Would be interesting to hear others experiences.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Stock and bits n' pieces

Hi all. So during this downtime I have tried to have a look at how I run the business, looking at everything from my framing methods, the workshop layout, equipment maintenance and stock/materials I use. A good exercise 4 years in. I have received amazing input from this forum, and I am super gratef...

Fixing spacers

Hi all, Hope everyone is well... Hoping for some opinions regarding spacers. Specifically wooden spacers. I have historically cut these on the morso, attached using the ‘pinwheel’ method using titebond wood glue, clamping in place and leaving for 6hrs ish then fixing to the frame. I have read variou...

Re: Paperweights?

As Justin mentioned I have a few glass weights I purchased from charity shops. I also have about 12 other weights made from old spice jars. Sainsbury’s own brand come in little glass jars. I have filled these with v-nails. I used to have a Minigraff underpinner and used my old supply to fill these u...

As you say Mark, their isn much value (apart from sentiment) in getting it professionally restored and this wa...

Old newspapers

Hoping to get a few tips on tackling a personal project. I have a variety of old newspapers that my grandmother collected and I am keen to mount and frame a few of them. As is expected with newspapers they are very brittle and some have significant damage. My first advice to customer would be to hav...

Re: Football scarf suggestions

Thank you Mark for your detailed response!

The client hasn’t given any requests. It’s actually for the local pub.

I was think about having some of the length but not all. The teams motif is on the end of the scarf and the rest is a strip so not necessary to show the full thing.

Thanks again

Re: Tiny workspaces

Hi, Not much to add to the other suggestions. I myself have a small studio and having everything on wheels has been a blessing. I also have a fold down shelf/bench as an ‘overflow’ area when I am working on multiple frames that can then drop down when not in use. I designed my studio to have one lon...

Football scarf suggestions

Hi all, Firstly, I hope you are all well and managing during this time? I have my first job that I have taken in quite a while. The client isn’t in a rush (good job as I am juggling childcare and home life) and left it to me to come up with the creative for it. The scarf is a reproduction of an old ...

Ornate moulding suppliers

Hi all, happy Thursday... I am looking at re-framing a modern abstract b&w photo that is 900mm x 450mm and mounted on diabond substrate. I am trying to source ornate mouldings but struggling with what I have seen on Wessex, Lion, R&H... Can I get a view on who you are using please? Thank you...

hanging type for narrow profiles

Hi all, I was curious to know what folks use as hanging methods when dealing with narrow profiles such as Lions - L2119, or narrower? I have amassed a collation of various hanging types but keen to know what peoples 'go to's' are? Thanks as always... Here are a few I have been trying - Lion - 5718 L...

Thank you for the detailed replies and great insight! I don't have the ability to dry mount (yet) and use a 3rd party. Was keen to get a view on the pitfalls / limitations of float mounting without the use of dry mounting. Thanks all!
