Re: Looking for hand finishing tips

I really like the example in your link Mark and Geoff Peach's faux wood is excellent. This is something I would love to try out but it all looks like it takes ages to do. How do you possibly charge for this?

Re: Mouldings defects/damage

I've used Lion's chop service on a number of occasions and have been very happy each time.

Re: Clamps

Although I use a Frameco like the one above, I've just ordered one of these as well:

For the price it's worth a try.

Re: Clamps

I use the Frameco clamp. Yes it is a bit expensive, but it has a steel band instead of a strap so doesn't stretch and feels really solid when it's pulling a frame together.

They are very strong. I have 3 medium sized pictures hanging of some of mine.

Re: Hanging systems

That's the one I use, the R20 version, with the squeeze hooks.

It's very easy to move around and change when you sell something.

Re: Taking Photos Remotely from Ceiling mounted camera ?

Can you actually control the zoom function on your pc using the supplied Canon software for this camera? I also want to mount a camera on the ceiling to photograph artwork and controlling the zoom remotely has been the thing I can't seem to find out even on Canon's own website. I downloaded the demo...

Thanks for your replies.

I think I'll give the Liberon a try although I can't see a 'neutral', only clear, pine and black.

Do you think a couple of coats of this would do the job?

Wax protection

I made up a frame using plain unfinished Ayous which the customer took away in order to give it their own paint finish. They've just returned it and said that they actually prefer the plain wood finish it has now. I would like to give it some sort of wax finish to protect it but not to change the lo...

Re: Pen tool

Does the pen do a nice job of ink wash lines around the mount or is it really only suited to more bold lines?

Re: Thin black frames

I read in another thread on this forum a question from someone who was asking about taking on a member of staff because they were getting behind and the orders were mounting up. The advice many came back with was not to take someone on but to invest in equipment that would help make things quicker. ...

Re: Thin black frames

How does the Morso compare with a professional framing circular saw like Brevetti or Alphamachine etc when it comes to quality and reliability of cut? Presumably the foot operated Morso performs the same as the automatic electric version since it cuts in the same way. My question is about quality an...

Re: Table saw

Thanks for your repilies. I made one the other day by making 2 frames and they were too tight to fit which is why I asked the question. I ended up having to use the electric sander on the outside of the inside frame to make them fit. It's nice to know that even experienced framers have similar probl...

Re: Table saw

Hi This might sound like a silly question, but if I want to stack 2 mouldings together, should I make 2 frames, apply some glue, then drop the inner into the outer, or should I glue the 2 long pieces of moulding together first and then mitre the thicker composite moulding and make the frame as norma...

Re: Lost property

I'm also just starting out and I can see that it may be awkward to ask for a deposit or full payment beforehand if the client is a friend or a local business owner whom you know and have previously done business with, but otherwise I don't see a problem with asking for it. As long as you ask politel...
