Re: Attractive window displays

It looks terrific. I`m not surprised it pulls in customers. Where would you store the props if you have several themes throughout the year? In our spare room probably! Or we'll resell them on the bay. We sold the picture hanging up at the back (which we cut out of a calender) and replaced it with a...

Attractive window displays

Hi all! For years we never really bothered with having a theme for our windows but recently we have upped our game and have a themed framing window. This month's theme is Autumn and we're quite happy with how this window has turned out and loads of people have come in to have a look because of it. W...

Re: Baseball cap

Hi Jon, Thanks for the info. That's really helpful. I like the set back idea. By the way, I enjoyed the article about the changes you made to your business. Can't remember if it was in 4walls of FATG Mag. It helped me make up my own mind to do something similar.

Baseball cap

Hi all, Customer just brought in 2 signed Mclaren baseball caps for framing. The layout will be the caps side by side in the middle, photos of each driver beneath, driver's name cut vertically into the mount on each side by their hat and photo, mclaren + logo cut into mount at top and maybe mercedes...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

All the work has now been completed at last and we have been open for a few days now. We are both really pleased with how it's turned out! I think we achieved the rustic look we were going for. It's really nice to deal with customers in a brighter, more open environment. Also it now feels like the r...

Re: Mobile POS card readers

I've just cancelled my contract with retail merchant services and elevon due to having a few...um...lively disagreements...with regards to certain fees they were charging. Anyway, i now use izettle with my smartphone and i love it. I bought a pos printer and the recommended cash register and I sold ...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

I'm on holiday in Dorset next week, might just pop by to check it all out You are welcome to pop in but there's not a lot to see here at the moment. The gallery is pretty empty and most of the prep work is being done in my brother's workshop where the heavy machinery is. We are closing on the 29th ...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

Thank you for your comments! Its nice to get things done and have the business running in a comfortable way. I figured that if the shop change doesnt work out, change it back. I've pretty much finished the counter top now. Just needs a final sand down and several layers of varnish. Websites nearly f...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

We are on the high street. On south street. I know the place you mean by the bus station. Its the vintage and arts section of town, St. Michaels art studios etc. The framer isnt there anymore and there are quite often part time framers that pop up one minute and are gone the next around here. I've m...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

Quick update. Since my last post on this thread we have completely changed our business image and made it more uniform and brand oriented. We have gone for a rustic, approachable image that we think suits our customer base (and our own personal tastes). We are minimizing the gallery to one corner an...

Frame Banner?

Hi all,
I was after a bit of advice about how to frame a masonic banner. It is about 1m square and has a pole at the top which it hangs from. I have never framer a banner before and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Thanks!

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

We probably frame mounted prints more than anything else. We also frame quite a lot of needlework. We seem to get in more textile art every year from various local clubs and artists. I think it could be the previous guy used to superglue any textile art he got onto board and when I took over from hi...

Re: Organising framing

Does that mean there is no customer copy? Nope no customer copy at the moment. Havent had any problems so far but we are going to completely change over to using the Wessex pricing program with all of its features including all of its database and work ticket facilities. So when we refurbish the pl...

Organising framing

Hi guys, Just having a cuppa coffee for a minute and wondered how every keeps organised with the jobs that come in. For example, I currently use the old tried and tested day book method. Every framing job is written on an A5 job sheet (very scruffy example below. They are normally much more neat and...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

One off events sounds good and possibly renting out one or both of our windows for a week or 2 at a time could be an option (although the wife's not as keen on this idea). Simoonez - I understand what you mean about people coming in to the gallery and realizing you do framing as well. We often get p...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

Good advice and thanks all for commenting. Roboframer- The problem we have is that due to our location, we get too many time wasters which we have to deal with in the gallery. They think we are a museum so just come in for a look with no intention of buying anything but want to talk as well and like...

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?

We've been discussing it for a few days now and we think it's the way forward for our business. It's a lot of work and a bit of a head ache because it will mean completely refitting our shop and changing the signs etc so we want to make sure it's definitely the right thing to do. Has anyone actually...
