Re: Storage of mouldings - Horizontal or Vertical?

I store moulding horizontally and use shelving brackets http://www.screwfix.com/prods/26903/Ironmongery/Shelving-Systems/Shelving-Systems/U-Brackets-270-x-13mm-Pk10 and http://www.screwfix.com/prods/84148/Ironmongery/Shelving-Systems/Shelving-Systems/Element-Sys-Wht-Upright950PK2 fitted with square ...

Morso lubrication

Does anyone have a diagram showing all the lubrication points for a Morso? Mine seems to have got a bit stiff when moving the head backwards and forwards so I'm wondering if there are places I've missed.

Lion Deliveries

Something's changed with the Lion delivery service. I placed a small order late on Monday and paid for standard delivery. I received an email from Lion yesterday telling me that an order had been despatched and was scheduled to arrive the next day. The email gave me the option of changing the delive...

Re: Pricing fundamentals

Many thanks. It mostly looks fairly straightforward - it's more a case of finding out where things are buried. Something simple like creating a relationship between two tables is obvious till you find it. At this stage it's a case of familiarising myself with FileMaker's interface. I have The Missin...

Re: order of under pinning

I was taught to always have the long on the left but, being of a rebellious nature, I now have long on the right.

Makes me feel more like an individual - though I see I'm not alone.

Jon

Why not pop over and have a chat. I produce greetings cards and art prints on an Epson 4800. I can at least show you how I do it.

Re: Pricing fundamentals

Mike This is the perfect excuse to just get yourself an iPad. (You know you want one) Absolutely! I need to prove to myself that I can develop a suitable database first but I've never used FileMaker before and it's frustrating working through noddy little tutorials when I really want to get stuck i...

Re: Pricing fundamentals

Well, it doesn't look that difficult but it does need a copy of Filemaker Pro which is about £250 to develop it but only FileMaker To Go (£25) to run it on the iPad. If I get anywhere with developing it I'll maybe ask you if you can test it on your iPad.

Re: Pricing fundamentals

Hi Sandra If it's an Excel spreadsheet then you can probably use Documents To Go Premium (£9.99) which will allow you to create and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents on the iPad. It works well on the iPhone so should work even better on an iPad. I'm using FileMaker so that I can include stoc...

Pricing fundamentals

I'm planning on writing a frame pricing application to run on my iPod (and, if I can afford to buy one, an iPad). At present I cost moulding by the length (rounded up to the 1/4 length) and mountboard by the sheet (rounded up to the 1/4 sheet). I'm wondering whether I should move to costing moulding...

Wot's this?

Does anyone recognise this moulding? I have to give a quote for repairing or reframing for an insurance claim. The frame is 39 cm (h) x 29.5 cm (w).

Re: Framing work for the local High Street Framer ... a dile

Well, for the shop it could be a distinct advantage as they'd only need to pay you when work was available. And (maybe) you'd be willing to work at times when the shop would normally be closed (evenings/Sundays) so you could offer a quick turn-round. What's the standard of their work? Would you be w...

Simons Cold Press

Has anyone tried the Simons 12-inch cold press? It's on special offer at the moment - £150 with 2 rolls of mount film and a roll of laminate.

The rep was showing me a photo mounted onto a Simons perspex block and I'm rather tempted to invest some money and try it.

Re: Stretcher Bars - when to add Wedges ?

Papering the back is belt and braces and I would only do that if there is the budget or it's valuable/requested - it will make a good impression but is extra work not needed in every case. I never bother to charge for papering the back. There's a roll of Kraft paper attached to the bench end (I use...

Re: Stretcher Bars - when to add Wedges ?

Where do you place the backing paper Mike ? I cover the entire back of the frame assuming the rebate is deeper than the stretcher. Normally I wet the Kraft paper, leave it while I smear PVA arond the frame back then put it in place. Needs a little practice to get it right first time. It looks dread...

Re: Groom Stick HELLLLP!!

I stopped using Groom Stick for the very same reason: if it sticks it sticks like sh*t.

I seem to remember having some success in removing it with lighter fuel but freezing it might also work if you can avoid the art getting damp.

Re: Stretcher Bars - when to add Wedges ?

No idea as to the 'official' method but I'd put them in after stretching the canvas as that avoids the risk of them falling out during the stretching process. If they fall on the floor it's no problem but if they fall between the canvas and the bar then you can get a nasty dent in the canvas. I've a...
