Re: Double sided map - is this the correct way?

[quote=WannabeFramer post_ My main concern is the age of the map and how colourfast it would be, even if just the front is framed. They were told by the shop that it wouldn't be an issue but it does worry me most. [/quote] This does not become your problem because you have framed it. Your responsibi...

Re: STRAIGHT CUTTING WITH NEW FUTURA

Not sure what is happening here? If the board is a regular thickness, around 1.5mm the double 012 blade should be fine, it's what I generally use. Normally if it's not cutting through just extend the blade until it is cutting about half way through the slip mat, I assume you are using a slip under ...

Re: Understanding underpinners

Generally, with a manual underpinner, you must pull the joint tight with your hands, and then hold it still, whilst pressing the pedal with your foot. To insert multiple wedges you will normally have to move the moulding you are joining backwards and forwards. Pneumatic machines generally have clamp...

Re: Frame Allowing Access to a Magazine

Never done this, but how about . . . . 1) Create a sturdy backing board, by bonding mountboard and foamcor/Dibond or similar together 2) Create 2 or 3 Mylar strips to hold the magazine in the normal way, but with one end attached with Velcro so that it can be undone, and redone, and because the back...

Re: Large box frames with thin moulding?

Ha, I think we all have a client like that! Firstly, I agree, the sensible way to proceed would be to use an aluminium profile. But, that is probably not what the client wants. I have done a similar job in oak for a customer, and it did work, but with one caveat - if the glass (or in my case Acrygua...

Have you actually asked Wessex or Centrado for a price in pack sizes you want?

Re: Shadow Box/very deep frames

There's a book by James Miller - The Complete Guide to Shadowboxes and Framing Objects, published by PFM. Lion stock it for £39.95, or it maybe available second-hand. My twopence worth Use something like Rose & Hollis A45 Use AR 70 glass, as reflections are more pronounced with a shadow box. The...

Re: THAT FRIDAY FEELING!

I love the paradoxical use of the mirror slip

I've not used a Frinton frame for a while now - is there enough rebate depth, or did you have to build out the back?

Re: Hello from Herefordshire!

Hi Anna Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find lots of help and advice here. There can be some bargain equipment on ebay, but there is also plenty that will require replacement parts, and significant tinkering before you get professional results. This can make it tricky if you don't know exact...

Re: THAT FRIDAY FEELING!

That’s really nice Justin (or should I say Erica). Works beautifully with the artwork.

Here’s mine for this week. A demo for the artist, with her name in resin letters on the side of the frame (usually this would be the title)

Re: Table covers??

I have 2 different surfaces on 2 benches.

1) Cut pile carpet tiles (never loop pile, it traps all the bits) - this bench is for assembly

2) Framers Grey board, coated with Polyvine decorators varnish, this protects the plywood bench surface, and needs replacing every 12-18 months

Those look really good. I like 354 oak a lot, but it is a bit tricky to join without a Hoffman.

Re: Flattening prints

I have a plan chest with 10 sheets of mountboard in the 'flattening drawer' Take the print out of the tube, and put it in between 2 sheets of mountboard, and put some weight on it - sheets of mountboard/plywood/glass etc will all work. Leave it under there until you are ready to frame it, and mostly...

Re: Is the customer always right?

I would definitely discuss the grammatical error in a tactful way with the customer prior to framing.

Perhaps asking something like "is the grammatical error part of the joke?" !!

But then tact isn't my strong suit . . . . .

Re: Alternative solution for joining deep frames

I use these a lot, obviously on bare wood mouldings, but really useful when doing small frames where strap clamps are a pain.
