Re: Cassese Underpinner Parts
There are many cassesse manual under pinner which all use the same pattern of hammer. Older models which are no longer current, are difficult to sell, so they are mostly only useful for spares. Quite a lot of the well worn out earlier models get part exchanged and sold on through the trade and get b...

Re: Ready made backs
Most of my stock of ready made frames have those brass plated slip-over hangers slip on the edge of the backing board, they do look a lot nicer than the standard black slip-over hanger. When I last needed to buy them, I could not get them in smaller quantities, so had to buy a bag of 1,000 hangers, ...

Re: Framers triangle points!
Are they the larger 13mm triangle points, for the old Kaha point guns. I've got some, but I need to look for them, because I don't know where they are. They come in a thin metal sleeve, and you withdraw the sleeve after the points are in the gun. The 13mm points are to large to for other guns point ...

Re: Underpinner advice please?
I have a CS-88 and before that I used a CS-79. They are both essentially the same internal mechanism and I have joined oak on both. There is a very definite difference in performance between a pneumatic and a manual underpinner, when it comes to joining oak, but it is worth bearing in mind that both...

Re: New to the forum
Hi Chhow and welcome to the forum, You will find that some things are a little different between framers in the U.K. and the U.S. For exammple the common technique for backing frames in the U.K. is to use a backing board, where as in the U.S., the backing on frames is usually a paper dust cover. How...

Re: Chevron display
This post has been edited by a Moderator to keep it focussed on topic Hi Megan, This is not necessarily cheaper, but before I needed to move premises, I bought some of those long slotted metal strips and springy snap in hooks from Lion, which I think makes it easier to always have my sample cherons...

Re: Struggling to find Vnails/ Wedges for Orteguil Underpinner
Wessex always used to be the main UK supplier for Gielle underpinners and I presume that the still are. A\s your chart of compateable wedges includes Gielli, it might be worth checking out whether Wessex still supply Gielli wedges. Hopefully they still do.

Re: Inserting Images into a Sale
If your computer has the Windows operating system, it probably includes a free program called Paint. This program has some basic image manipulation tools included as part of it's facilities and this includes an image rotation option. It's all pretty basic and therefore does not require any specialis...

Deep Box frames
I usually like to make my better quality box frames using Simons moulding 000K/0114. The wood grain shows nicely through the paint and looks quite classy. I sometime make up cheaper box frames by converting ready made frames which have been hanging around too long without selling, by adding a simple...

Re: Bugs in frames?
Heat kills insect eggs. If there are any viable insect eggs inside the wood of the frame the frames needs to be heated in an oven to above 100 degrees centigrade for about 30 minutes to destroy any surviving eggs. Any organic matter will be destroyed when subjected to temperatures above 100 degrees ...

Re: Underpinner cs88 won't work
The receiver block is the rectangular silver block from which the wedge emerges and is inserted into the moulding. Earlier machines have a allen key screw in front of this block facing upwards and later machines have an allen screw lower down at the front of the surround around the receiver block an...

Re: Underpinner cs88 won't work
There are a number of possibilities why this will not work. A good one to check for is probably that the hammer blades is stuck in the receiver block and as a result that the hammer blade and has become detached from it's mounting. If the hammer blade cannot return to it's reseting position, then th...

Re: framing before modern equipment
I've got all the usuall modern equipment, which everyone else uses, but everything has it's limitation and some jobs still need to be done using the old fashioned tradisional way. Yes, I often have to use hidden pins, or nails to keep the front face on really deep frames closed and stuff like that. ...

Re: Liquid Metal Metallic Paints
I was sent a colour sample sheet of Liquid Leaf paints by Gold Leaf Supplies. The sample sheet was made by Golf Leaf Supplies themselves and it looked quite impressive to me. I have not tried these paints myself, because with all my medical problems there is too much going on right now, but maybe as...

Re: Liquid Metal Metallic Paints
Although this does not refer to mettallic finishes, I also am a big fan of layered, distressed, waxed and subtly washed paint finishes on mframes and mouldings. It does not make too much sense to make these finishes unnecessarily complicated as it is much more worthwhile to be able to complete the w...

Re: Liquid Metal Metallic Paints
The method which I use was popularised by the well known Pete Bingham. The bronzing powder is mixed with an oxidation preventer and simply stippled into an initially brushed on coat of Liberon Black Bison wax. The resulting finish is then gently heated with a hot air paint stripper, with causes both...

Re: Liquid Metal Metallic Paints
Liquid Metal Paints are sort of O.K., but the are not as convincing as either a proper gilded finish, or a metallic finish using bronzing powdwers. Prosperro uses a bronzing powder receipe based on a varnish base, while I use a bronzing powder receipe based of a water based method with a wax based bi...

Re: Mounting CDs
Replcement CD cases are easily available and can be cut up to use the part which clips in place into the centre of the CD to bedisplayed. It can be quite helpful to gently heat the plastic before cutting up the CD case, before attempting to cut up the material of the CD case to avoid it becoming bri...
