Re: OBAs

I don't know whether this is directly associated with your mountboards but the FATG Update of February 2018 reported "It was brought to the attention of the Guild that some suppliers of mountboard have been using potentially misleading terms to describe their product, making it hard to be sure ...

Re: Looking for hand finishing tips

You don't indicate the size of frame or budget. A possible alternative may be to use real walnut wood and get the moulding routered to the required profiling. Real walnut would be expensive but you have to weigh that up against the time experimenting and completing the painting/staining/finishing et...

Re: Hanging systems

The hanging nylon or metal wire systems are much more flexible.

One consideration you may wish to think about is security. If it is easy for you to put up and take down the pictures it will also be easy for the light fingered brigade.

Re: WANTED

I found that the rods at the end that are used to help keep the boards in place do not have the strongest weld and can easily break off. Apart from that they do the job adequately.

Re: You Tube Videos

A lot of thought and dedication. Well done, Mal.

I have suggested to FATG that 'educational' videos by FATG members could be linked through their website. A lot of work goes into making these and it is a pity that often they don't get enough exposure and/or recognition.

I don't know about your specific problem but there is an article at https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6258784?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en that may help. I've found that running a utility such as Advanced SystemCare ( http://www.iobit.com/en/advancedsystemcarefree.php ) tends to cut ...

Re: Back of oil paintings

The Clip-Its arrived a lot earlier than anticipated (Amazon predicted September - anywhere up to 14th). Unfortunately they don't fit - close but not close enough. And I'm not going to chance forcing them as I'm not going to risk damaging the paintings. If they were the right size they look as though...

Re: Large WW2 Flag to Frame

If the customer doesn't want to pay for the conservation factor you might suggest that it is bequeathed or lent to a local museum or archives. Assuming they apply the normal conservation standards it wouldn't cost the customer and other people would be able to see it. An alternative possibility woul...

Thank you John. Having the full name I then found them on Amazon UK. I've ordered some to try. All the vendors are from the USA so they will take a week or 2 to arrive.

I haven't come across 'Clip-Its' in UK Framing catalogues or Google. Do they have any other name or identified by the manufacturer's name?

Thanks

Shop front

This morning I had to take my van for a MOT. As there was a couple of hours to spare I walked into the nearby town. On the way back I noticed a Framing shop. Although it had a large sign outside saying it was a Picture Framing shop most of it was hidden by a bush or tree. I realised that on the way ...

I know when my late father donated some photos to his local hospital they insisted that they handled how they were displayed and they had to be done so that there was no means of harbouring bacteria etc. (and presumably dust and dirt).

2 window mounts?

I've been asked to mount 2 old deeds (as separate frames). As expected, although they have been weighted down for weeks they have only flattened to a certain extent. The customer doesn't want the documents to be handled by a conservationist etc. (not valuable) and I don't have the equipment and know...
