Re: Glazing an oil
I think that if the artist sees the piece framed as his finished vision then I agree that it should be sold as such, already framed I have had many customers over the years that have followed the artists “advice” and not liked the finished article. Several more who have been quite upset that the fra...

Re: Glazing an oil
I agree with the glazing option.
I dont understand why, if the customer owns the picture, what the artist thinks here has any relevence. As long as copyright is not breeched, surely the legitimate owner can display the painting however they choose?

Re: Conservation Question
I would say that UV glass is a requirement of conservation framing if any artwork is being displayed in an environment where UV light is present. If it is being framed for display in a controlled environment and will not leave this then it is superfluous. The most often overlooked point is that ALL ...

I think that Robo was such a part of this forum, that there should be at least a difinitive statement from admin as to whether he is banned or not. if he chooses not to participate anymore that is of course a different matter and for him alone to decide

Re: Glazing Canvas Art
The glazing seal seals the glazing into the frame to form a seal against dust and other pollutants. Many framers make a sandwich of the glass mount and backing for similar reasons. Museums often prefer the glass sealed into the frame because it is easier to remove the art without having to cut off, ...

Yes dehumidifiers are a great help. It is much easier to heat drier air than air that contains a lot of water

This glass can be cut either side.
I save the stickers, because sometimes we sell pieces cut size and it is nice to put one on, shows people what they are getting

The only way to really tell is to have a uv meter http://www.preservationequipment.com/Store/Products/Equipment-$4-Tools (scroll down to: Environmental Monitor (RH Temp UV & LUX) We use an earlier model to test each piece we use and record the data (measured uv from a black lamp direct and throu...

Re: Identifying UV glass
Unfortunately the only way to tell is to remove the glass and test it with a uv meter. The only two exceptions I can think of are, as framemaker says, Tru-vue products have a distinct orange peel effect, and if the glass is laminated the plastic laminate will act as a uv filter. As framemaker also c...

Re: A conservation question
Still curious, as per my post above, what conditions in a sealed package in a well made frame are likely to cause such a bleed to take place? Cheers Tim Absolutely none that I can think of. The frame would need to be subject to such abuse that the artwork would probably be totally destroyed anyway

Re: Not a company Credit Credit
Why not? We had a credit card that offered cash-back, we used it as much as possible, then every November we got a cheque in the post, very nice. Three possible downsides. Not all suppliers are happy about accepting credit cards and may levy a charge, meaning it may cost more to use than you gain. A...

The Amaco wax fillers are superb. Boot polish I think will be far too soft.
I also like these instead of crayons, for larger holes.

Re: cleaning Acrylic
If it is new and still has the protective cover I would not try to clean it as previously mentioned. There are anti-static brushes that you can buy. we give it a quick brush over with one of these and it reduces the static enough to make fitting relatively easy. If it is old and dirty then we use a ...
