Re: what type of rigid tab is used here?

Hi Mark, many thanks for your reply regarding the methods you used on fabric. It is fairly hit and miss. I did about 100 small fabric prints in frames some years back of old scenery around the UK from the 1800s. They looked very good in small frames and I made these based on visiting Italy many year...

Re: what type of rigid tab is used here?

thanks for the above replies. Sorry when saying vintage I'm not trying to copy the actual frame. This particular frame is from the 70's. I'm buying old frames and replicating similar artwork inside printed onto fabric but I won't be using backing boards and instead will use thick card taped to the b...

what type of rigid tab is used here?

Hi everyone, I have a very small vintage print in old frame that measures approx 3" x 3.5". I've been trying to replicate the way it's been printed which is onto some kind of fabric. The back of frame doesn't have a backing board and is just held in place with a medium card glued down. It ...

Re: Lots of people seem to be selling up and closing their businesses.

Hi Mark, I'm not sure if I created my post after or before you made this post but I've only just got around to reading this. I may well be one of the newcomers that you mention although I'm quite limited with what I want to do and achieve. You responded to my post regarding the empty frames I'm look...

Re: Is it worth setting up or buying from a supplier

Thanks for your replies so far. The couple of online suppliers I have contacted will only sell the full frame but they are the low budget suppliers I've come across on ebay and etsy. Strangely they do a more suited moulding than any I've come across elsewhere. I'll have to spend a little more time l...

Is it worth setting up or buying from a supplier

I have a couple of ideas for some unusual prints that I'm working on. I have a specific style of frame moulding in mind and only want to work with square frames that are 5x5" and also 10x10". I'm struggling to find any frames suitable and ideally I wanted long term orders of something simi...

Re: Login Problems

I've had no end of issues since coming back in here in the last couple of weeks. I've written multiple new topics and as soon as I click to create it I'm logged out and have lost everything written. I've wasted countless amounts of time. Recently when I have written any new topics I have resorted to...

has anyone ever come across this type of internal print feature in a frame?

My mum has some small old vintage prints in very small frames. The prints areno more than 1.5" x 2". I think they might of been purchased 40-50 years ago, although could be slightly more recent. I was quite interested to see how these were made as the actual print isn't flat and looks slig...

Re: Glueing or fixing a 500g tile in to a frame?

Thank's mark. Yes it is a bit of a risk ,but i think the build of this particular box frame should be suitable. It is a far better constructed frame as opposed to the Ribba frames and other budget designs I've come across. The backboard is definitely far superior and feels like it can take some weig...

Glueing or fixing a 500g tile in to a frame?

I did make another thread about some relief plaster art sculptures which got a couple of replies but I thought i'd make a new thread as i've changed my mind on the way I'm going to commence the project. I had originally wanted to make some extra large relief wall art sculptures from plaster and then...

Re: Interesting clues from what Ikea are discontinuing.

Do you have an online presence ie shop or online market place, as you mention being in a small town but with some presence online elsewhere then your open to more of the general public. The best selling Ribba frame was 23x23cm with a depth of 25mm, so whilst small it wasn't the smallest of frames. D...

Re: most suitable frame and method of framing a relief art sculpture?

thank you both for the above replies. I'm not a framer by any stretch, most of my time is taken up sculpting or crafting so I prefer to purchase my frames from suppliers. As said, in another thread I was buying Ribba frames and variations of Ribba frames for the majority of my art work, but I don't ...

Re: Interesting clues from what Ikea are discontinuing.

I agree that paying more for a similar frame from a good frame supplier can generate a better mark up, but as you mention, this has worked for this customer when selling possibly at an exhibition/gallery as opposed to selling solely online. I don't think it's always as easy when selling solely onlin...

Re: Interesting clues from what Ikea are discontinuing.

this is an interesting post as I am one of those people that was buying a particular square Ribba frame in bulk for some of my artwork. I used to have to go into the store and select these frames as there were a few online resellers that obviously went in store and put these frames on the likes of A...

most suitable frame and method of framing a relief art sculpture?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for deep frames to mount relief plaster art that has a depth of no more than 2cm. The whole artwork measures 18cm x 18cm but I have other sizes up to 12" x 12". Most of these relief designs are square in size and are sculptured onto a square plaque base that I can ...

Finding suitable backboards and struts

Im not a framer but more of an artist that enjoys working with plaster. In recent weeks I've cast a few plaster frames. My main issues was finding custom backboard and struts for these as I have very irregular sizes to standard frames on the high Street. Im now just wanting to make smaller standard ...

can anyone help with small shadow box frames...supplier needed.

I've recently purchased some sample shadow box frames from a couple of retailers to compare. I will be selling my sculptures within these frames and was anticipating long term regular order but am quite disapointed with the overall workmanship. I was looking for a reasonably priced frame but more im...

Best hanging wire to use on tiny plaster frames

I've recently begun making some extremely small plaster frames using a vintage mold. These are just decorative items but I'd like to find the best way of hanging them. The frames measure only 11.5cm x 8.5cm and 8mm deep and weight between 100-200grams. I had purchase 25mm no nail knock in sawtooth h...

wire looped hangings for back of flat wall sculpture

I'm soon to be casting some plaster relief wall hangings. They are relatively small and not overly heavy. Ideally I want them to sit as flush to the wall as possible and I would prefer to use a small wire loop in the back of plaster. The intention is to place a small wire loop into the plaster whils...

Mounts to display 12" vinyl records

Can anyone make bespoke mounts suitable for displaying 12" vinyl records so as to fit a vinyl record directly into the mount and not stuck on the mount if that makes sense? I recently purchased sample frames but they included just a standard white backing mount board. The white mounts must incl...
