Not much to go on, I would think a YouTube video would help.

Re: How to photograph picture frames ?
It may be worth investing in a cheap light tent from ebay, some black cloth and a couple of continuous lights or flash heads. Reduce refelections to a minimum by positioning the picture away from windows etc and dim all lights. Light the picture from either side around 45 degrees. Using flash will (...

Re: Cleaning your hard disc
Not sure if CCleaner will work with W98 but worth a try. Have used this software regularly for a long time, will clear out your registry and various other files. Worth trying this before you do anything else.

Re: How do I use these properly?
Before I bought my Excalibur board/glass cutter I cut everything by hand. This gizmo will increase your confidence when breaking by hand as it prevents the two pieces from moving apart after the break is made. Put under the score line and grip with thumb/fingers on both sides. Rotate both wrists out...

You may like to try CPC or RS Components. I have used guns to reterminate underwater cables and they chuck out serious heat.

Lion do two sets, very useful and I now colour the inside of each joint before pinning. Better than trying to correct after. Also use the gold and silver pens, again from Lion.

Re: Foil covered mountboard
Just ordering masking film, opaque black glass paint + everthing to do with gold leaf !. Also a book from Lion so I will be prepared if anyone round here shows interest in a hand gilded frame - unlikely but you never know.
Will post results later....

Re: Ademco vacuum press
Good news it sucks !!.
However only up to 18 on the scale. I thinks a good internal clean will improve matters and I will get a meter to test the vacuum directly on the pump. Heaters seem to be ok as well. Hopefully have it all installed in a month or so.
Cheers

Re: Ademco vacuum press
Many thanks, nearly popped my gonads the first time I lifted it but I guess these things have to be ridgid to handle the vacuum. I will need to experiment with timings/temperature but have you any ball park figures to start me off ?. Also any preferred supplier for consumeables ?. Currently building...

Can anyone identify this moulding ?
Customer popped in today with yet more prints to reframe. I would like to replace with similar moulding if possible. Have looked through DJ Simons, Arquadia & Wessex but no luck. Moulding is about 35mm wide.
Any ideas ?.

Ademco vacuum press
Just acquired this (saved from skip...) but not had time to test yet. Cannot locate manual on web and I think this is an old obsolete model. Anyone recognise it or able to offer info ?. I have spent a lot of time looking at video's on Hot Press website, very informative and I presume that the operat...

Re: Foil covered mountboard
Food for thought. I think the thing that impressed me most about the technique was getting the inner edge so sharp. Given this was done in 1948, would "masking tape techmology" have been up to the job or is there any other way it could have been done ?. It would be wonderful if I could rep...

Re: Foil covered mountboard
Thanks for the replies. A couple of pics just to illustrate the finish. Front, gold is around 5mm wide. glass001.jpg Back glass002.jpg I would have attempted this but not sure how the sharp edges and square corners were achieved. Also my knowledge of gilding is zero so this could be expensive baptis...

Foil covered mountboard
Customer came in a couple of weeks ago with a set of eight framed pictures of birds by John Gould. They had been framed in 1948 using an "interesting" technique. Essentially painting the reverse of the glass black to give a 50mm border and then gold coloured foil to form a 10mm inner borde...
