Re: At Last!

Just a note of caution. I'm not suggesting that you necessarily follow our example, but you should ensure that security is in place and actively protecting the CMC computer before connecting it to the Internet. Our CMC computer is dedicated to one job and that is driving our trusty TruCut. It is not...

Is this not an ordinary ethernet LAN cable?

If so, buying a cable would not only be the cheapest solution, but it would also be quicker, more secure, and more reliable than a wireless connection.

Re: Photographing Finished Frames

We often photograph framed pictures glazed with normal 2mm float. Two cheap studio strobe units are positioned to illuminate the subject obliquely, and the camera is positioned at a point mid way between. The glazed picture is placed directly below the camera. CameraSetup.jpg This is the photograph ...

Re: Music Licence

These guys called me about a year ago trying to ask similar questions, which I ignored, instead I asked them how they got our number and if they were aware that our number was registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and that we refuse to accept unsolicited sales calls. I then told the...

Well said Prospero.

You have illustrated yet again that when it comes to framing, applying intelligence to your work is infinitely superior to blindly following a set of "rules".

Outgassing?

I’m trying to figure out what is going on here. Conventional wisdom would dictate that some kind of “leeching” takes place where the artwork has contact with acidic materials. However this twenty year old picture appears to be defying that convention. The image is bonded to grayboard, probably with ...

Re: CS88 - am I worrying too much

I think you have missed the subtle difference, Nigel Nobody, it's not that the widths of the legs are dissimilar, rather that, in one orientation, the inner end of one of the legs projects, preventing the other leg from lying flat against the fence. Whether the nut is up or down is of no practical c...

Re: CS88 - am I worrying too much

The most likely culprit is that the spacer bars (used when the moulding is lower than the fences) have been placed incorrectly on the machine.

This is the incorrect orientation.

Re: Price Check Please

While this is a great way for you to profitably dispose of what you regard as 'scrap' moulding, James, it tends to plant the notion that bespoke framing is inexpensive, and creates a resistance to the prices that a custom framer has to charge for the same job in order to stay in business.

Re: cost of servicing a compressor

Cliff,
Welcome to the forum. I'm not an expert, and hopefully someone will come along who knows about these things, but that's probably the going rate.

Bagpuss,
I've already read Cliff's post, why remind me of what he just said? What's the point?

Has the adage a picture is worth a thousand words ever been more apt?

Surely a few examples to illustrate would be more telling than this waffle?

Re: Experienced eyes please

Why has my moulding ref No been shown as a freakin' phone No? Can I call it to see if it's in stock? If this is happening in Internet Explorer, it is probably a Skype feature that translates any number that it thinks might be a telephone number into a clickable link to Skype. To remove this "f...

Mr Site is highly regarded.

Well worth considering.

Thanks for your suggestion Alistair, it was worth a try, but unfortunately the clamp pressure adjustment seems to have no effect on the plunger's return speed on our machine.
