Re: Framing a book
In avoiding anything being stuck to it i would determine my glass size then cut a thin aperture for the spine to sit in. Using fishing line, I'd stitch the book down (not stitching through the book) to hold everything in place. I saw the technique used in a castle in Scotland just outside of Aberdee...

Re: Block mounting "Holiday" paintings on Linen
Depending on size, and if you can get access to a Hotpress I'd drymount it to piece of mountboard. If you cut the board to the size required beforehand this leaves the excess loose and you can still give the appearance of a stretched canvas over a piece of moulding. I hate these things. I love when ...

Re: off the peg photo frames
We stock a selection of RMF's and usually only stock 5 of various sizes. We dont put mounts in anything under 10"x8". The way we work it is so a 10"x12" frame homes a 10"x8" image etc. That way our RMF's are all of standard industry sizes. A neat system i've seen is to ...

Re: Stuff found in old frames
When finding these old newspapers what I like the most is that the news hasn't really changed. We appear to report on all the same stuff regardless of the year/decade.

Re: Is this needlepoint?
Hey Robo,
We always level the back out with foam and packing.
We find the lifting is usually dependant on width of the mount. Larger the border width the more likely it will occur.

Arqadia do a supersized mount board. It only comes in a textured white.
Nielson also do a range of Jumbo sized mountboards.

Re: Is this needlepoint?
If using thick board another option is to T-Pin. To create a good level clearance from the glazing I prefer shadow mounting. Spacers combined with a window mount I find can occassional cause the window to lift from the item being framed. Especially if the customer hangs it somewhere where the temper...

Re: Stretching canvases with inadequate borders
We usually talk the customer through various options. We offer 3 levels of stretch, budget, a fixed stretch (canvas stretcher moulding but pinned) and premier stretch (bars with wedges). Budget is usually a shallow moulding that we pop 3mm mdf in the back to prevent bowing. If (as in the case menion...
