Re: MDF
As another rather silent member, and certainally no conservator, I would reiterate the failings of MDF. Despite my workshop being heated and dry I became aware of a damp smell around my store pile of backing offcuts last year. They were the usual mixture of 2mm hardboard, the various incarnatio ns o...

Re: Workshop and shop
Been there, done that and wouldn't recommend it. Dividing your time between the two and supervising staff ensures frustration and very little work done. I ended up working every night till about ten to keep up to date. I also found that customers like to see the framer on the premises to give the pe...

Re: The best of the bespoke framing market
Can't complain about A&T's customer service. Despite being in the far away half of Scotland, we see their rep four times a year and have done so for years now. They have been the most constant of all the suppliers in actually putting a face through the door and are our main source of mouldings a...

Re: Am I too expensive?
A guy came in yesterday wiyh an A4 photo to be framed for today- he fussed and hummed for about ten minutes over it, finally choosing an ancient red 1/2" cushion that I hadn't used in years. He left the mount colour to me but asked for a heart to be put on it. To get this involved me closing an...

Re: Workshop Lighting
I use full spectrum lighting tubes that , as it says, gives a replica of daylight. A lot of "daylight" tubes omit parts of the spectrum or are like daylight bulbs to some extent, which are blue tinted glass. The FSL tubes give accurate colour rendition and reduce eyestrain and are the basi...

1/2" brown spoon
I was grubbing around my moulding racks this pm., looking for a moulding my stocklists said existed when I came across a full length of Magnolia's 1/2" brown spoon. It must have been there for the best part of 20 years; I no doubt set it aside for some possible repeat job that never happened. H...

Re: Euro Underpinners
Thanks for replies re. underpinner. I have left a message with Mr. Finn and I will let you know of progress. This site is full of useful snippets and I poke around most nights for a half hour or so. Working with the public you quickly discover that most folk are only interested in talking about them...

Euro Underpinners
Evening all, Just saying hello; I discovered this forum by chance and tangental googling and have been exploring its treasure troves ever since. After much praising by myself of my sleuthing abilities what did I find at the back of the Lion catalogue last week? The web address! Anyway, to business. M...
