Re: PHOTO PRINTER
I'll agree with the never off detail for the Canons and Epsons, and I'll throw in environmental issues for both. Our old (but still running) Epson 9800 used to clog on a regular basis when it was based in our print room (four mac towers four screens, office heating etc), but when moved to a cooler, ...

Re: Best Adhesive
Are you sure this is Kapa (foam board with aluminium skins, skinned with paper), and not some sort of Foamex/ /Forex material (expanded PVC)? I've never seen Kapa with a release film, but all the Forex and similar that I've used has a release film. From 3A composite info on Forex Classic PVC: Bondin...

Spring clean HGP360 - got to go
Somehow, I'd overlooked that we still have our HGP 360, as described a couple of years ago.
With Spring here, we need to use the space. In used, but good condition, everything works as it should. Make me an offer!

Re: Dibond mounting, Hotpress or Jetmounter?
Jet mounter all the way. If using a heat press with non permeable materials (gloss, dibond), there is a good chance of bubbles of air being trapped in the print. Not a pretty look. Facemount adhesive applied to the DiBond, print laminated, then mounted to the DiBond, then trimmed. Orange peel in var...

Re: BAMBI HT24-2P Oil Free Compressor
In A concrete building, ours sounds like a hammer drill. Very far from silent - certainly couldn't have in the same room as me. But at that price, I'd be tempted to get better headphones (except then colleagues sneak up on you, just as you've got a scalpel in your hand, then you have a scalpel in yo...

Shelf life of adhesives for roller laminators
<Rant> Yesterday, while half way through prepping over fifty sheets of aluminium for a show, we found that our optically clear adhesive (of which we had well over 30m of 41" left on the roll) was becoming increasingly wavy, and fluted, on the roll. Thought, OK, lets get some more delivered for ...

Re: BUBBLES IN COLD MOUNTED C-TYPE PRINT
As you know, dry mounting is irreversible - If you try to remove the print, you'll (further) destroy it. I've never had success popping bubbles, even with the finest of needles, it always seem to show. If the line of bubbles is at the leading edge, within an nth of the edge of the aluminium, you cou...

Thanks Guys, the deburring tool works a treat, and functions through the protective film on the aluminium.
The double burr tool is, hmmmm. Awful - leaves a jaggy stepped edge, Glad I only have myself to blame!

Rotring art pen with pigment ink - should be good for gloss. Or Sakura micron pigma pens, for relative low cost, and range of thicknesses available.
Pencil on gloss tends to be tricky!

Thank you both - I'll get a couple of these, and I think also one of the double burr tools as well. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/2446717/. We've a lot of sheets to get through, and as long as they don't create too much of a bevel, should do the job

Techniques to clean / deburr the edges of aluminium sheet
Afternoon all, We often mount photographic prints onto 2mm aluminium, using facemount and a jetmounter. We get the aluminium precut by a metal supplier, but there is always a slight lip where the guillotine cuts, even when we've paid to have the sheets deburred (I guess that our requirements make us...

Ultragloss - Hotpress or Zenith
We're half way through printing and mounting an exhibition (130 10x6.66" ultra gloss prints on to 2mm aluminium). We have been using Hotpress facemount adhesive and ultra gloss laminates, to remarkable effect. But, we're running low on stock, and considering using the Zenith deep water laminate...

Re: Hotpress Jetmounter mandrels - losing grip
Thanks John, It's not the orange silicon rollers, but the pair of black "plastic" cables screwed into the mandrels, which are designed to grip the inside of the core of the rolls of adhesive or laminate, which have lost their grip. This means that we can't use the braking on the feed, henc...

Hotpress Jetmounter mandrels - losing grip
We've run a JM44 for a number of years, and recently, the rubbery grip bits on the mandrels have become smooth and totally non grippy. Anyone know how to rejuvenate them? Our workaround is to apply braking to the adhesive roll, with one hand, while the other hand runs a tac cloth over the substrate....

Re: Foamboard cutting
I think I drink too much coffee to accurately trim Kapa and Forex mounted prints with a scalpel (though when there is a 1mm wide section to trim, I have been known to try). Our auto changing system for scalpels is a tray of freshly loaded handles, which I believe to the untrained eye, look slightly ...

Well done - a fine process, and a class product (I've pointed a few print clients to kaymount for the Diasec image finalisation), and have always been amazed by the final results.
