Re: Making paint chip

Hi Jamesnkr

After viewing those frames in Sir Elton's home shown in that IG feed makes me realise I will never become a "proper" frame maker even if I get another life time of framing. (insert very sad smilie)

Re: Time to logout.

In my case not just "silly" but "very sad" I have also read every post in General Discussion starting from the back! It's taken me a few months and reading a few each night (over 90 pages) It's been a fascinating read, seeing who has come and gone and who has stayed the course al...

Re: Making paint chip

Thank you so much for that Instagram feed Vintage. I have never seen any thing like it, as if the frames were not impressive enough, that wall display of chevs' was unbelievable.

How do you find stuff like that?

Re: Lacing textiles tips wanted please

Hi Sarah

By way of an explanation.

Dangling a needle over the "mum to be tummy" and seeing the way it spins is supposed to indicate a baby boy or girl.

It's an old wife's tale.

Good luck with your lacing.

Re: Lacing textiles tips wanted please

I agree with Tudor Rose, excellent advice including " After going side to side a few times I hold the length of thread and allow the needle to drop down under its own weight you will see that the thread tension then releases and the needle spins around" And that is how my wife and I knew i...

Re: Horror!

When I had a framing shop/gallery we (my wife, one part timer and me) always worked in "batches" (frames first) and I am convinced that this system was more efficient and much less wasteful. Cutting batches of glass, mounts and backs accurately was not a problem. In those days the number o...

Re: Hello Hello

Good afternoon Rafe Pleased to hear you are fixed up with a Morso from Jamesnkr. When it comes to advice and getting practical help on certain matters IMHO he is a great resource. Also, I am pleased to read that you are looking for a pneumatic underpinner and not a manual. You will not regret that d...

Re: Pistorius Underpinner

In case anyone is vaguely interested;
My old Pistorius is now gone. I would like to post "NOW SOLD" but that would not be true, instead, I must write "NOW SWOPPED" for a nice selection of saleable moulding, both parties very pleased.

Re: Hi

Hi Harvey

Welcome to the Forum.

Carpentry skills have got to be an asset where framing is concerned and perhaps you should be considering "hand finishing" plain wood mouldings, lots of info, about that here.

Good luck in what ever you choose to do.

Pistorius Underpinner

Thanks to some of this Forum's members it works well. It's just not for me and besides, I don't like it. My oldest (long term) framing friend in deepest Norfolk has two of these beasts proudly standing side by side each loaded with different size of wedge. He swears by them. Anyone considering this ...

Re: Query

Hi Rick Firstly, thank you for posting the image of Pistorius "block" last year, that solved my problem. FWIW I would go Acrylic and try and find a local suppler who cuts to size. I found for one offs, buying on line is more expensive. What with delivery, minimum order and such. It took me...

Saying hello

I would like to introduce myself and at the same time apologise for not doing so sooner. I have been a framer for more years than I care to remember. I discovered TFF last September and jumped in with a post/problem about my Pistorius underpinner before introducing myself. This oversight has trouble...
