Re: Removing double-sided tape
Many thanks for all these suggestions. I tried lighter fluid which I had to hand, and that's done the trick

Removing double-sided tape
I got a print to re-mount and frame. The existing mount has been stuck to the print with double sided tape. I've managed to remove the mount but it's left a sticky residue on the print. Does anyone know if there is a safe/foolproof way of removing the residue?

I'm very sorry to hear about Mark's stroke. I had been wondering if he was OK as he hadn't posted for a while. If you speak to him, please pass on my good wishes for a full recovery.

Welcome, Helen
I've been on the West Dean course too - three times in fact, and I've learnt a lot on each occasion. John Hill does an excellent course and West Dean is an excellent venue for it.

Re: An aperture problem
Thanks both, and for your kind offer, Steve. Unfortunately the existing mount has signatures on it so the customer has to keep it. I'll put the other options into the mix to discuss with the customer, thanks.

What about displays showing the different glass options and the beneficial effect of UV and anti-reflective glass?

An aperture problem
The customer has asked me if I can do something with the job shown on the attached image, ie fill the aperture of an existing mount. Currently the aperture holds a photograph which has a flat paper "mount" with a circular aperture, but it doesn't quite fill the aperture of the mount. Howev...

Re: Picture hooks
Thanks for all the comments. Personally I don't like the look of them, I think they look cheap and nasty, but one of my relatives swears by them and has now convinced one of my other relatives. I wondered if I was being a bit finicky but probably not from the comments here.

Picture hooks
A couple of my relatives have discovered these picture hooks at The Range and think they're brilliant. The 40mm size has 4 pins that you hammer into the wall and are suitable for hard walls. My reservation is that because they're plastic, the hook might eventually snap under the weight. What do peop...

Re: Pricing for larger orders - 50+
A scenario similar to the one prospero has described has cropped up a few times on this forum, and the person in question was from Northern Ireland, as you are, featurepiece. I seem to remember that one person who sent him a sample stamped the word "Sample" all over it so that it couldn't ...

Re: Quick Question on Client Consultation
I was reminded of this thread this afternoon, when I finished framing two watercolours for an amateur artist. When she showed me the paintings, I thought they were OK but nothing very special. Now each one has a double mount in colours to pick out the colours in the art, and the frames are a perfect...

Re: Quick Question on Client Consultation
Meeting the customer, discussing their job and helping them come to a decision is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job. The notion that my role would be as outlined on your web site would be anathema to me, sorry!

Re: Arqadia L/J web ordering.... anyone out there got a clue
I don't use any site that has infinite scrolling if I can possibly avoid it. I can't imagine why Arqadia/LJ thought it was a good idea. I believe even the inventor wished he hadn't invented it.

Re: How many mouldings do you offer?....
... if you needed precisely a 2 metre length of moulding (no waste) Mouldings are sold in 3m lengths, theoretically. In practice, if you order a 3m length, you might get 3m (and to be fair, I usually do), but you could also get a delivery of 2.7m, two lengths of 2m, or any other random length. Ther...

Re: Glass cutting when you start framing
I see places like Wessex supply/deliver cut to exact size – any comments on going that way, just to start with? In terms of the overall job, cut-to-size float glass isn't that expensive, whether by Wessex or a local glass merchant. It might be worth going that way to start with. I buy packs of stan...

Re: Level of quality of woods used for factory finished moul
I can remember being able to buy factory finished mouldings produced from tulip wood and they were great. Are there any still available now? Wessex list some tulip wood mouldings but I'm not sure you'd class them as factory finished. I got a sample once for a customer who wanted a bare wood frame. ...
