For many years ago at SACA a man from Argentina visited our booth and asked me to test a 2 mm sheet of light brown Eucalyptus-board. It was at both sides nice flat as MDF but the 2 mm was at least as strong as the 3 mm MDF. This man was not alone and he had an Italian fellow who looked like mobby......

One of my customers is working only with hardboard in mass-production. This hardboard is dark and made from Eucalyptus and I noted the board is feeling oily at my fingers. So I suspect the dust can't come off as easy as from MDF that feels more dry. Now I also know that manufacturers of MDF-plates 3...

Some framers use hardboard with only one side flat and in dark color as made by Duratex. This board is much stronger and more stiff. But in this board is also glue.... All board contains glue..... And all manufacturers can make mistakes. And if the mix of the glue is wrong, the board should be wrong...

No lack of alternatives.
As far as I know framers always use special paper to avoid direct contact between MDF and an artwork. But I'm more a mass-production-specialist. :)
