Glass welding

I tried an experiment the other day. I have been fooling around with various glue mixtures and solvents. To cut a long story short, I tried sticking offcuts of 2mm float together, edge to edge. I have just had a look and I was amazed to find that on one test piece, not only has the glass bonded, you...

I've got lots of boxes of used blades and one day I will find a use for the unused sharp bit in the middle. 8) It amuses me when I see mounts with bevels as rough as a badger's wotsit that have obviously been cut with a blunt blade. How much does a blade cost? :D How much does a sheet of mountboard ...

Just a thought. What about that sticky foam tape? It is extremely sticky and seems to bond to even the most smooth surfaces. How long it stays stuck is a moot point though, but I once tried to detach a flying multi socket that I fixed to a melamine cabinet after a good few years and I had to run a s...

They are not made for framing exclusively. They are just flat corners stamped out of about 1/8" guage steel with three screw holes in each 'leg'. Should not be difficult to find in any hardware store, but try to get them in bulk packs rather than bubble packed in 2s. Much cheaper. btw. If you u...

That's a very clean and orderly looking layout Kev. It makes mine look like a right midden. So I am too ashamed to post a piccy.
It is about 18x8'6" however. :D Maybe I'll draw a plan.......

The frames are all different sizes, but most of the dimensions are approx. 54 inches x 24 inches. I will reinforce stringing wire vertically, but with a big load like that I want the mitered bond to be especially strong. With glass? Thats a big frame. For extra strength, think about reinforcing the...

Welcome Billy Bob. :) If your frames are not too big (<approx12x16) you may be OK with 10mm v-nails. (Despite manufacturers instructions). Even if they are bigger it still might be OK if you put a number of them in laterally. Don't be tempted to put too many in close together though or it will tend ...

The whole issue of working with ready-made, customer-supplied frames can be a minefield. (Ready-mounted prints to). I get people coming in with 'can you fit this in that' all the time. More often than not, what appears to be a 5 min job turns out to be a half-hour job. It's particually irksome if th...

The ladies could save you some time getting themselves the velvet (about 6" bigger all round) and neatly stitching the tapestry to it. Then they could bring it to you with a lot of the donkey work done. I would put the velvet on canvas stretchers leaving about a 3" border. This would incre...

Rose & Hollis are good for chop ally. They do the neilsen range. (At least they did last time I ordered. Don't use ally very often.) I must have had 100's from them over the years and never a bad one. And one day when they ran out of one profile and I was desperate they taxied some new stock in ...

The Golden Rule for all us non-CMC types when cutting any multi-aperture mounts to pencil lines:

Always keep the dropout area under the cutter bar and all your bevels will go the right way. :D
