Re: Making space

One point to watch - the inadvertent kick on it's legs tends to send mine out of square so checking squareness is fairly routine. If you fix a wooden batten to the floor, in front of the legs, they will not move, I've done this in every workshop that I have worked in. once you have it set up square...

Re: How was December?

Figures for December are up on last year, in fact they have doubled :D order book is looking good for January as well. Future plans for 2012 is up-grading the CMC to cope with the extra work. Have just launched a new web site for more online sales, got quite a few sales from the original web site si...

Re: LARGE! frame

270cm x 80 cm is approx 8' 10" x 2' 8" in english! The moulding is part of the Lion's aluminium range and hence quite strong. Ap11-24 would not be at that size it, you will have the glazing popping out the front, it will not hold the weight of the glazing, I don't even think you could use...

Re: Colour Trends

I don't pay much attention to what the customer has in mind/wants (unless it happens to be what I first think of when I see something). That's no way to make money! That's why I'm getting a lot of customers coming to me, from where I used to work, saying that the staff there are not listening to th...

Re: Colour Trends

To answer Robo's question, it might fall into the other 10% , most probably would not have a mount on at all, if it did then a a mid to dark blue with a silver frame, without seeing it in the flesh it's hard to say how I would frame it, it depends on what the customer has in mind. We do a lot of fra...

Re: Colour Trends

In the shop 90% are white/off white or black, and the same on our interweb site, but this week we have had orders (interweb) for lots of colours, even gold & silver!! just goes to show.

Re: Help again

Totally agree with GeoSpectrum, keep it simple, a choice of half a dozen frames, white/off white mount, with some under-mount colours , make up samples of mounts as double mounts. Don't be fooled regarding more work to come, give a small discount to start with and increase if and when the photograph...

Re: Charity Auction requests

If it's for charity, then you have to make up your own mind about it, I frame for a few sport clubs on a regular basis, so if they ask me to do something for their charity event, I usually will do it a reduced rate, because of the past business they do with me. If it's a new customer/club ( you get ...

A vacuum bag would be good to get the stuff bonded to the moulding, they are good for irregular shapes, not sure what adhesive to use, but with your background Mark, you would know.

Re: How to cut spacers

we mitre our spacers normally at the same time as we cut the moulding, both together at the same time. It works, but others may do it differently. Seems a good idea, but if you pin them you might find they are a very tight fit, as the pin can push the out edge out to make room for the pin. Steve

I tell customers the reason they won't lay flat is that when they made the papyrus they layed them out on the banks of the Nile to dry and the papyrus took on the shape of the sand :giggle: :giggle:

Re: Looking for upright feet or holders for box frame

Going back to the standing method, you could get some wood 20mmx20mm or 25mmx25mm cut to around 120mm in length, with two of these set at right angle to the bottom of the frame screwed into the bottom rail of the frame, you could paint them black to match the frame also if they were cut on a Morse t...

Normal price, it doesn't matter to me what the customer is going to do with it, I'm happy with my mark up on materials  , the customer (wedding photographer) is happy with it  , and the happy couple will be happy   (we hope) so it's win win situation.

Re: last cut....help

there are so many moulding choices available that you shouldn't need to "make do" and bodge up standard frame shop equipment to cut it. Most of the time you can find an alternative that will cut OK. Its a good idea to shell out and buy a length or two rather than just scrounge chevron sam...
