Re: What's the best for heating?
I'm in the same process at the moment - trying to heat the workshop. Our old space was an old milking parlour that got very cold. Glass would just shatter when we tried cutting it, I was amazed it had such an effect. We had an energy advisor come round who said our best bet if installation money was...

Re: Framing Newbie - 101 questions
Hi Matt and welcome. Prospero has been quite comprehensive, framing is a minefield sometimes. In terms of the very best, regardless of cost, I guess I would suggest using laminated AR UV glass - 99% light transmission, 99% UV protection and 0.5% reflectivity. It is expensive though, and there are ar...

Re: Pop-up shop / gallery
Did you do any pop up shops? I've been looking into it myself and I reckon it'd be a great way of getting into new markets. A friend of mine has a pop up gallery in Bristol and is doing amazingly well. There's also a thing with rates on empty commercial premises which will benefit the landlord if yo...

Not wholly sure what you mean, but if you mean wrapping a mount or slip perhaps this might help

Moulding chevrons
Has anyone tried displaying moulding chevrons using sheet metal and strip magnets? I want to display them without using velcro if I can. I guess my main concern would be that strip magnets (as in the flexible stuff) aren't amazingly strong. Sheet metal cut to size is quite readily available online, ...

It looks amazing, Well done
Just one question, I can't quite tell from the pics, how deep is the moulding and how deep is the pine structure? Is the pine visible if you get round the side?

Re: For Sale - Morso blades and System 4000
My apologies for the delay, had a few problems (unrelated) which didn't give me time to sort this out. Hopefully I've measured these correctly. What I've done is measure from the blade edge to what I assume is the wear line on the flat side of the blade. To give it context, my new blades measure 27m...

Re: FOAM Board
I use Kapamount board. I don't know its conversational skills it hasn't said much. But it is good quality, very firm and copes with my roller press. It has a layer of aluminium between the foam and the surface paper. I use it for bonding to reproducible works so conservation doesn't come into it for...

For Sale - Morso blades and System 4000
Hi all, I have 5 pairs of Morso blades, some are sharp some are not so I think best move is to consider them all in need of a sharpen. £50 per pair or £200 for all 5 pairs. The System 4000 sheet material cutter is in working order but needs some tlc. A new glass cutting head is required and there's ...

Re: What makes a great framer ?
A tricky question, and one I'm trying to answer while writing my business plan. Now, I think I'm a pretty good framer but why? Why do I think customers should come to me over any other framer? I don't have a succinct answer yet. Can anyone say why they are good framers? perhaps we'll start to be abl...

Re: Excalibur 5000 - damaged?
I don't have an excalibur 5000, but I imagine you would be able to see that the threaded rod is bent or the surrounding metal is bent?
If it turns and does its job then you're probably alright.
Hopefully someone else can shed more light on it.

Re: Close gallery and use as a framing showroom?
I think you've come to some good conclusions there but I'm in a slightly similar situation. I've not been set up as long as you, I starting from fresh, and I'm not (quite) on the high street. I do have a gallery/workshop combo where, on a simple level, the gallery costs money rather than earns. I do...

Re: Help needed in Dorset
Hi Shaggydog,
I'm in north Dorset with a roller laminator if that could be of any use. It's a jm34 so will easily do your prints.
Let me know if we can help at all.
Simon.

Re: FOTW
I might be interested, depending on costs of course.
I have a trainee framer who I would like to get a point of view that isn't mine. He's very good at absorbing information from the bylines then putting it into practice.
Perhaps you might pm me potential costs or put something in Members section?

Re: Choosing location for new business
I started off in a shed at home, which was out in the middle of nowhere but it did ok. I found there was a problem with me not really pushing the business as I had little to no overheads, it always seemed like I was making money but it was a struggle to move up to rented premises. But I made it and ...

Moulding Id
Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone could help with this moulding?
It's 75mm wide by 30mm deep at the back. Its a mottled brown smooth finish scoop and a gold sight edge.
Many thanks.

What he said..
Sounds like grease spots or similar - I get them when my cloth gets a bit old. They do polish out with a bit of effort and a clean cloth.
